The Principal Financial Group is seeking a Director of Retirement Onboarding for our Retirement and Income Solutions area! As a leader within the retirement onboarding space, you will help retain and grow market segments, provide strong leadership for employees as well driving critical goals & objectives!
Leadership: Communicate and drive vision, empower and develop. Identify and mentor those leaders with the highest potential for growth.
Customer Service and Consultation: Provide mentorship and expertise to senior leadership, peers, direct reports, and customers on sophisticated services and issues. Consult directly with clients, prospects, distributors, and group field force to promote industry standard methodologies through existing products and services. May serve as an account executive for more complex projects, including in-person meetings to develop and maintain positive relationships with existing and/or prospective clients and other partners.
Operations Management: Communicate and coordinate division goals and objectives so that direct reports can successfully implement appropriate strategies to attain goals and objectives.
Financial Management and Control: Initiate detailed action plans and effectively manage costs and revenue to help BU meet or exceed its financial goals. Communicate performance and financial results to management. Find opportunities to reduce costs, increase efficiency and increase revenues.
Strategic Planning and Execution: Set, plan and implement strategic direction to ensure financial and non-financial goals are attained. Serve on committees, subsidiary boards and task forces, and convey marketplace trends, feedback and asks to advance customer service, product and service initiatives, and the overall interests of the company.
Compliance Oversight: Provide oversight and expertise to ensure government, industry/professional and company requirements are met.
Who You Are
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, plus 10 years related work experience within the retirement plan industry.
- Proven formal leadership required
- Must have strong solid understanding of retirement industry and legislative activity
- General Securities and General Securities Principal registration may be required
- Must be a strategic problem solver and have strong presentation, verbal and written communication skills
- Requires strong analytical and problem solving skills and the ability to build positive relationships with internal and external partners and customers
Salary Range Information
Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.
Salary Range (Non-Exempt expressed as hourly; Exempt expressed as yearly)
$137000 - $185000 / year
Time Off Program
Flexible Time Off (FTO) is provided to salaried (exempt) employees and provides the opportunity to take time away from the office with pay for vacation, personal or short-term illness. Employees don’t accrue a bank of time off under FTO and there is no set number of days provided.

This role offers in-office, hybrid (blending at least three office days in a typical workweek), and remote work arrangements (only if residing more than 30 miles from Des Moines, IA, or Charlotte, NC). You’ll work with your leader to figure out which option may align best based on several factors.
