Principal is seeking a Financial Analyst I to join our Pension Risk Transfer team in Retirement & Income Solutions! In this role you will use your technical and mathematical skills to perform, review, document and/or code more complex retirement calculations and transactions taking into consideration compliance requirements, client/legal documents, and tax implications.
We are looking for someone who has Defined Benefit (Pension) knowledge, thrives on solving unique problems using advanced analytical skills and enjoys working with various internal partners and tools pending the business need.

Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.
Salary Range (Non-Exempt expressed as hourly; Exempt expressed as yearly)
$22.07 - $28.85 / hour
Time Off Program
Personal Time Off (PTO) is provided to hourly (non-exempt) employees and provides a set amount of accrued time earned each pay period. Employees can use their PTO for vacation, personal or short-term illness.

This role offers in-office, hybrid (blending at least three office days in a typical workweek), and remote work arrangements (only if residing more than 30 miles from Des Moines, IA, or Charlotte, NC). You’ll work with your leader to figure out which option may align best based on several factors.

Responsibilities will include:
- Independently analyze and process complex retirement calculations and review participant data within established timing and quality standards.
- Serve as a resource for calculation and transaction processing by reviewing participant data and retirement information.
- Support the testing and validation of automation tools developed for streamlining benefit calculations and related processes.
- Participate in or take the lead on special projects, system testing, escalated issues and other job-related duties with consideration to timing required and quality of work documentation needed; report on progress and final results.
- Work towards self-development by expanding knowledge of department, line of business, and industry.
Who You Are
- Bachelor's degree in math, actuarial science, finance, accounting or equivalent experience required
- Advanced Microsoft Excel proficiency, including pivot tables, specialized functions, and conditional formatting
- Must be detail oriented with the ability to identify and interpret subtle differences in processes and information.
- Must be able to work independently, take initiative, be results oriented and exhibit excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Must have strong problem solving, leadership and analytical skills
- Good oral and written communication skills required
- Must have good interpersonal, customer service, and organizational skills
- Demonstrates a willingness and capability to accept and adapt to a changing environment
- Experience working with retirement plans specifically defined benefit plans and knowledge of pension risk transfer
- Experience in VBA, SQL, ProVal, ProAdmin, and/or other programming languages
