What You'll Do
The Principal Financial Group is hiring for the Head of Executive Communications!
As the Head of Executive Communications you will define, develop, and deliver the global communications strategy and thought leadership platforms for the CEO and other executives. In coordination with the Head of Communications, Investor Relations, and the broader communications team, you will ensure consistency across the executive program, investor communications, the brand, and the business. In partnership with our executive management group, business leaders, investor relations, marketing, outside agencies, and other key partners, you'll align on a common narrative for key collaborators!
Executive communications strategy
Define and deliver a coordinated executive thought leadership program to advance the reputation of our top executives, supporting the development and implementation of multi-stage communications campaigns, aligned to strategy, reputation, and business outcomes.
Build and lead the personal brands of key executives, positioning them as industry leaders and trusted voices through appropriate channels.
Create a common communications narrative that serves as a source of truth on how we speak to the company’s business strategy, purpose, and reputation.
CEO communications strategy and support
Define and design CEO program to advance personal and company reputation,in alignment with desired business and communications outcomes.
Lead all aspects of strategy and content for the entire portfolio of CEO communications and engagements, internal and external, and other executives as assigned.
Drive communications strategies and approaches across multiple channels – earned media, social media, events, industry associations, community, and employee engagement.
Serve as a critical partner in the development of content and materials to support interactions with investors and other public company partners.
Reputation and stakeholder management
Offer deep communications expertise and drive global communications strategy to support key company moments (major investor and client events, M&A announcements, crises / incidents).
Serve as key communications partner with investor relations to define and deliver the PFG equity story during investor touchpoints (quarterly calls, investor meetings, events).
Anticipate and mitigate communication risks, ensuring preparedness for potential challenges or crises.
Who You Are
Bachelor's degree or equivalent in marketing, journalism, public relations, or related communications field, plus 12 years of experience
required
Master's degree preferred
Broad experience in public relations and internal communications; corporate or agency experience
required
Proven experience in building personal and corporate reputation is helpful
Preferred to have strong media relationships within the business / corporate and financial services industry
Strong strategy and leadership skills required as well as the ability to influence and engage direct and indirect staff
Must have excellent organizational, analytical / problem-solving, presentation, and oral and written communication skills
Ability to take a coordinated approach to solve sophisticated issues
required
Ability to work with divisional and country heads, high profile media personalities and outlets
Global or US travel may be required
Salary Range Information
Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and / or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.
Salary Range (Non-Exempt expressed as hourly; Exempt expressed as yearly)
153000 - $207000 / year
Time Off Program
Flexible Time Off (FTO) is provided to salaried (exempt) employees and provides the opportunity to take time away from the office with pay for vacation, personal or short-term illness. Employees don’t accrue a bank of time off under FTO and there is no set number of days provided.

This role offers hybrid (blending at least three office days in a typical workweek) in our Des Moines, IA corporate office.
