What You'll Do
We are seeking a Product Manager I to join our Private Markets technology team within Principal Asset Management. We have an opportunity to advance our Data Strategy by enabling quality data for reporting, investment decision making, and to leverage for AI and data analytics modeling tools. Additionally, we are looking to strengthen our Enterprise Strategy by driving business growth and expansion through the adoption of new tools and technologies that support the servicing and management phases of our asset lifecycle.
Together, our Product Families are here to arm investment professionals with modern tools and solutions which allow them to make informed business decisions with ease and speed, so Principal can continue to grow and expand Private Markets.

Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.
Salary Range (Non-Exempt expressed as hourly; Exempt expressed as yearly)
$81900 - $182400 / year
Time Off Program
Flexible Time Off (FTO) is provided to salaried (exempt) employees and provides the opportunity to take time away from the office with pay for vacation, personal or short-term illness. Employees don’t accrue a bank of time off under FTO and there is no set number of days provided.

This role offers in-office, hybrid (blending at least three office days in a typical workweek), and remote work arrangements (only if residing more than 30 miles from Des Moines, IA, or Charlotte, NC). You’ll work with your leader to figure out which option may align best based on several factors.

Job Responsibilities
- Complete the product strategy and vision, communicate the roadmap for technology solutions that advance business goals
- Accountable for understanding and defining key business outcomes and requirements for your product(s), as well as the successful delivery of the product
- Manage product backlog and prioritize product features, including product health items (environment management/infrastructure needs and business enhancements)
- Collaborate with engineering, architecture, delivery, and business partners to deliver value
- Develop in-depth knowledge of business processes and a comprehensive understanding of technology’s role in solving business problems within the product team
- Apply user insights and feedback to inform decisions to ensure product development aligns with business goals, and seek to continuously improve
- Communicate product updates, timelines, and risks to internal stakeholders and senior leadership
Who You Are
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, plus 2 years of related business, technology, or product management experience
- Familiarity with modern product methodologies (ex: Agile) and product management tools (ex: JIRA, Confluence, Miro)
- Strong critical thinking skills to resolve complex challenges while balancing opposing priorities and strategic business goals
- Demonstrated success of completing multiple projects and initiatives simultaneously
- Proven ability to meet deadlines efficiently, and skilled at cultivating positive relationships across business units
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence, negotiate, and clearly articulate product strategy across multiple levels of both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Knowledge of the asset management industry, financial services, or investment management industry, specifically Private Markets (Commercial Real Estate/Alternative Lending)
- Knowledge of financial technologies, data management strategies and technologies (ex: AWS, Snowflake)
- Collaboration/experience with offshore team members
