What are the responsibilities and job description for the Product Manager position at Principal Financial Group?
We’re looking for a Data focused Product Manager to join our Benefits and Protection Data & Analytics team. In this role, you’ll engage with Finance, Accounting, and Actuarial business partners to understand their data needs; how they use it and how to best position it for consumption. Data & Analytics is critical to the success of strategic plans at Principal and this role gives you the opportunity to help drive that success.
Your day could look like:
- Define and manage a clear product vision and strategy that aligns with business and enterprise strategy.
- Lead discovery efforts in partnership with the Finance, Accounting, and Actuarial organization to understand business goals and data needs for implementation by technical teams.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams, including engineering, to define product requirements and prioritize features.
- Develop and articulate hypotheses, leading the product team - including design, engineering, and finance focused business roles- in ideation and experimentation.
- Collaborate with Product Management and Engineering partners across portfolios to ensure aligned outcomes and to manage dependencies.
- Assess product health using metrics and stakeholder engagement to continuously improve the product.
- Build strong partnerships with business partners to represent their needs. Garner their support and engage them proactively to ensure success.
- Advocate for the product mindset and approach to solving problems. Find opportunities to improve the product management practice and take action to continuously improve.

Who You Are
- You have 4 years of business, technology, or product management experience; or equivalent demonstrated through the following: work experience, training, military experience, or education.
- You have previous product management experience in a Data & Analytics environment.
- You have experience leveraging diverse perspectives and use of customer, user, or partner data and insights to inform decisions and actions.
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to influence and negotiate.
- You are curious, open-minded and motivated and are comfortable operating in ambiguous environments.
Skills That Will Help You Stand Out
- Financial acumen and previous experience working in an enterprise Finance space.
- Experience with SQL, AWS, Snowflake and/or PowerBI.
Salary Range Information
Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.
Salary Range (Non-Exempt expressed as hourly; Exempt expressed as yearly)
$77350 - $182400 / year
Time Off Program
Flexible Time Off (FTO) is provided to salaried (exempt) employees and provides the opportunity to take time away from the office with pay for vacation, personal or short-term illness. Employees don’t accrue a bank of time off under FTO and there is no set number of days provided.
