What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sr Trust Analyst – Principal Trust Company position at Principal Financial Group?
As a Sr. Trust Analyst, you'll perform complex trust services administrative functions including cash and trade processing, account maintenance, and statement balancing. You'll also address inquiries from internal partners stakeholders, account representatives, and plan administrators about Principal Trust Company’s qualified trust business.
Here are a few examples of the kinds of things you'll do within the role:
- Ensure tasks are executed in compliance with internal policies as well as State and Federal laws and regulation. Recognize and represent internal and external customer needs to ensure projects are completed in a timely and accurate manner.
- Act as main point of contact for counterparts throughout Principal for plans holding employer securities and alternative investments. Own the plan relationship from the qualified trust side of the business and ensure appropriate handling of all daily activities.
- Perform various, complex analytical functions including, but not limited to, analyzing and responding to corporate actions and proxy (legal and relationship) inquiries, preparing schedule 13G filings, reviewing and reconciling cash balances, preparing trades for execution, opening/closing accounts, and statement questions of Principal Trust Company’s qualified accounts.
- Act as a subject matter expert for key functions of the team and be the primary resource for team related questions for those outside the team.
- Act as the lead on projects impacting team functions. Ensure members of the team participate to the extent necessary and drive the project so that all targets are achieved timely. Research, define, analyze, develop and implement solutions relating to systems, marketing, product, and service development for business needs with minimal direction.

Who You Are
- Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent, plus 4 years trust administration or recordkeeping experience and knowledge of qualified plans.
- Excellent oral and written communication, organizational, problem solving, prioritization, mathematical, interpersonal and time management skills necessary.
- Requires basic computer skills and the ability to obtain the knowledge of business unit software.
- Requires basic to mid level knowledge of Excel.
- Requires a high degree of accuracy with strong attention to detail.
- Must be able to work independently in a fast paced, team-based environment with all levels of management.
- Excellent customer service skills required.
Salary Range Information
Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.
Salary Range (Non-Exempt expressed as hourly; Exempt expressed as yearly)
$51000 - $98400 / year
Time Off Program
Flexible Time Off (FTO) is provided to salaried (exempt) employees and provides the opportunity to take time away from the office with pay for vacation, personal or short-term illness. Employees don’t accrue a bank of time off under FTO and there is no set number of days provided.

This role offers in-office, hybrid (blending at least three office days in a typical workweek), and remote work arrangements (only if residing more than 30 miles from Des Moines, IA, Charlotte, NC. Minneapolis, MN or Wilmington, DE). You’ll work with your leader to figure out which option may align best based on several factors.
