Key Responsibilities:
- Review all purchase orders, invoices, and supporting documentation to ensure accuracy, compliance, and proper authorization.
- Verify that purchases comply with New York State laws, General Municipal Law, and the District's procurement policies.
- Ensure that payments are made only for properly approved and documented transactions.
- Check for duplicate payments, unauthorized purchases, and inconsistencies in financial records.
- Audit payroll and benefits payments as necessary.
- Certify vouchers and warrants before the release of funds.
- Report audit findings to the Board of Education and provide recommendations for process improvements.
- Maintain confidentiality and independence in the auditing process.
- Identify and report any signs of fraud, waste, or abuse to the Board of Education.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field.
- CPA or other relevant professional certification preferred.
- Experience in government or school district auditing is strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with New York State education laws and General Municipal Law.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills.
- Ability to work independently while maintaining professional objectivity.
