Job Summary:
The Human Resources Generalist is responsible for providing comprehensive HR support to business leaders and employees within the EMS service. This role involves recruiting and onboarding employees, assisting with employee relations, managing HR systems and processes, supporting performance management, leading culture improvement initiatives, and addressing HR and benefits-related inquiries. The HR Generalist will ensure HR policies and procedures are effectively implemented to support the organization’s mission and operational objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Recruitment & Onboarding: Hiring, and onboarding new employees to ensure a seamless integration into the company.
- Employee Relations: Provide guidance and support on employee relations issues, including conducting investigations in collaboration with the Regional HR Business Partner, resolving conflicts, and ensuring compliance with company policies and employment laws.
- Performance Management: Assist managers in performance evaluations, coaching, and developing employees to improve performance and engagement.
- HR Systems & Processes: Maintain and update HRIS systems, ensuring accurate employee records, compliance reporting, and process improvements.
- Benefits & Compensation: Provide employees with information and support regarding benefits, compensation, and HR policies. Serve as a liaison between employees and benefits providers.
- Compliance & Policy Implementation: Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws and regulations. Support the communication of HR policies and procedures.
- Training & Development: Support employee development initiatives, including training programs and leadership development efforts.
- Culture & Employee Engagement: Drive initiatives to enhance workplace culture, employee satisfaction, and retention. Organize engagement activities and wellness programs.
- Other HR Functions: Provide general HR support and participate in special projects as needed to support the overall success of the HR department.
Work Environment:
- Office setting with periodic travel to field locations as required.
- May require flexibility in work schedule based on operational needs.
Qualifications
Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent experience) and/or 3 years of experience in human resources, preferably within healthcare, EMS, or related industries.
- Knowledge of HR best practices, employment laws, and regulatory compliance.
- Experience with HRIS systems and applicant tracking systems (ATS).
- Strong problem-solving, conflict resolution, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to multitask.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- HR certification (PHR, SHRM-CP, or equivalent) is a plus.
- Experience working in EMS, healthcare, or emergency response industries is a plus.
- Knowledge of union environments and labor relations is beneficial.
