Job Purpose
The procurement manager will be responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and managing contracts with vendors who supply essential materials and services needed for waste collection and disposal operations, including items like garbage trucks, containers, safety equipment, fuel, employee uniforms etc.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Research and identifies potential suppliers for various waste management needs, assessing their reliability, price competitiveness, and quality standards.
- Negotiates contracts with current and potential suppliers to secure favorable pricing, delivery terms, and service levels, including volume discounts and performance metrics.
- Manages specific procurement categories like vehicle maintenance, fuel, safety gear, and disposal facility supplies, etc, optimizing costs within each category.
- Meets with supervisors and department heads to understand the needs across the company
- Regularly analyzes spending patterns and identifying cost-saving opportunities through supplier consolidation, price negotiations, or alternative sourcing options.
- Monitors inventory levels of critical supplies to ensure adequate stock without overstocking.
- Ensures all procured materials and services comply with environmental regulations and company safety standards.
- Continuously evaluates supplier performance based on delivery times, quality, and customer service, addressing any issues with underperforming vendors.
- Collects and analyzes data to ensure the company is making the best decisions.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in business administration, finance, supply chain management or a similar field required
- Minimum 5 years experience as a buyer or procurement manager.
- Strong understanding of procurement principles, contract law, and negotiation strategies.
- Awareness of the waste management industry, including regulations, equipment types, and common suppliers a plus.
- Ability to analyze data to identify cost-saving opportunities and supplier performance trends.
- Effective communication with internal stakeholders (operations teams) and external suppliers to manage expectations and resolve issues.
- Ability to manage complex procurement projects, including timelines and deliverables.
