Primary Activities and Responsibilities:
Inspect rail cars and equipment prior to loading
Receive and transmit information by radio, cell phone, computer, and/or app
Read and understand bulletins, work orders, bill-of-ladings, safety instructions, placards, pull lists and other written material
Assist and instruct mechanical repair crews to make minor repairs to railcars, including replacing material handling equipment
Work with load planners and yardmasters to ensure accurate and timely of preparation of railcars
Monitor railcar defect reports and update as needed
Maintain awareness of surrounding area and risk-taking activity to ensure safety and prevent incidents
Quickly and repeatedly make adjustments in staffing, production, and priority assessments to meet key matrix goals
Perform other duties, as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
18 Years of Age or Older
Valid Driver's License
Reliable Transportation
High School Diploma, GED, or Equivalent Work Experience
Capable of walking the length of multiple railcars and climbing on/off equipment safely
Ability to make decisions regarding security and the safety of others
Ability to fulfill requirements of identifying and issuing discipline to protect the associates, the customer, the company, and the job
Physical Requirements:
Light to medium physical labor, occasionally lifting up to 40 pounds over head as needed to compensate for absenteeism
Daily administrative work and/or data entry regarding details of work performed, repairs made, or defects identified
Reach/handle/finger/feel/carry
Stoop/bend/kneel/crouch/crawl/balance/climb
Work in cramped, confined, enclosed, or awkward places
Climb on the outside of rail equipment in all weather conditions
Walk long distances over uneven terrain
Employment Conditions:
Work safely to prevent on the job accidents and injuries
Wear personal protective equipment including hearing protection, boots, safety glasses, and gloves
Work hours may include nonstandard shift work as required by the customer
Complete Annual Training
Regulations require random testing for drugs and/or alcohol
Must pass all required assessments
Must pass a background screening (Post Offer)
