General Description
The Community Engagement Coordinator (CEC) organizes activities centered on HIV/STI prevention, leveraging tools like point-of-care testing, condom distribution, risk assessments, and linking individuals to prevention services (e.g., PrEP). A key responsibility is expanding prevention activities geographically and demographically, including collaborating with external organizations and engaging priority populations.
Specific Responsibilities
- Coordinates assigned focused testing and community engagement activities.
- Educates the public on HIV, STIs, and HCV with messages that are factual, culturally responsive, and linguistically appropriate.
- Develops, identifies, and negotiates appropriate agreements to utilize various sites/venues for HIV/STI testing, condom distribution, and other prevention activities, including sites outside of Dallas County within the Dallas Health Services Delivery Area.
- Identifies communities and individuals at greatest vulnerability and normalizes HIV testing.
- Perform rapid and confirmatory HIV and STI testing according to protocol. Finger sticks and whole blood collection are required.
- Assesses behavioral risks and provides prevention counseling.
- Review needs assessment results to determine additional areas and venues for testing or prevention services.
- Provides social media content and information to the marketing/social media team related to HIVand STI prevention events and activities.
- Provides requisite data and completes necessary reports.
- Follows protocols regarding timely documentation of each patient encounter and necessary reporting.
- Coordinates services with treatment providers and other internal/external support services.
- Coordinates planning with other functional teams to ensure effective and seamless service delivery, prevent duplication of efforts, and present a coordinated process to the community and clients.
- Engaging community partners in potential testing opportunities, including overall planning and recruitment via their networks.
- Serves on assigned external/internal committees or groups.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the program manager or program director.
Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- Working knowledge of hepatitis, tuberculosis, STI’s, and HIV/AIDS.
- Knowledge of HIV risk factors and HIV behavior change strategies
- Knowledge of HIV/AIDS prevention and intervention resources as they relate to specific priority populations including MSM, transgender persons, and communities of color
- Knowledge of agency HIV and STI testing protocols.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in conducting medical testing (rapid/confirmatory), including blood collection.
- Cultural Sensitivity: Ability to craft messages and deliver culturally and linguistically appropriate services for diverse populations.
- Organizational Skills: Coordinating activities across multiple sites/teams, maintaining detailed records, and managing multiple priorities.
- Collaboration: Building relationships with community partners and internal teams.
- Communication: Delivering educational messages effectively to the public and contributing to marketing efforts.
- Bachelor’s degree in related social service field. Relevant work experience may be considered instead of educational requirements.
- Specialized training required to implement intervention funded by DSHS must be completed within six months of hire.
- Bilingual preferred.
- Phlebotomy certification preferred.
