PRISM is a joint powers authority of California public entities operating various risk sharing pools, which provide insurance and risk management services to our members including counties, cities, schools, special districts and other joint powers authorities.


The Accountant is mainly responsible for reviewing and balancing specific programs, serving as the processor of AP, invoicing, and AR cash receipts function and assisting with the development of the budget, quarterly financial statements and ACFR.


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Process member invoicing for various programs.
  • Review and balance financial statements for various programs.
  • Balance and reconcile the various bank statements.
  • Reconcile various general ledger accounts as needed
  • Calculate net asset tie out for various programs.
  • Track depreciation of fixed assets (furniture, equipment, software), initiate supporting journal entries.
  • Initiate various ACH batches and payments.
  • Process coding of daily cash receipts and journal entries.
  • Review annual W2s
  • Maintain vendor files, including securing Forms W9
  • Produce Forms 1099
  • Assist/perform review in the payroll process (review, and PERS payments) and act as backup when necessary.
  • Assist in creating various financial documents (ACFR, PRISM budget, financial statements)
  • Oversee corporate Visa users.
  • Reconcile subsidy transactions and balances to website.
  • Process claims payments.
  • Various administration projects – archiving, monthly Laser fiche audits
  • Maintains process maps and document/update processors as needed
  • Do routine downloads from the accounting system, WTB’s, other reports as needed
  • Process accounts payable invoices including period end accruals.
  • Monitor and maintain expense reporting system.
  • Period end investment reconciliation and recording of investment activity.
  • Quarterly investment reports and balance of treasury transactions.
  • Produce and review budget and financial statements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Applicants will qualify with various combinations of education and experience, such as a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting OR 3 years accounting experience OR a CPA designation plus 2 years accounting experience.


The ideal candidate will have 5 years of industry-specific experience, or experience with fund accounting, grant accounting or multiple locations/cost centers. They will have knowledge and experience with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and Governmental Accounting Standards Board pronouncements, principles of internal accounting and control procedures, and principles of business administration and public finance. They will have the ability to perform high volume processing in an accurate and methodical way, and work independently to research, collect, analyze, and audit information and data related to business, financial, and/or accounting matters; communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with various sized groups; and establish and maintain effective working relationships and good public relations with employees, agencies, members, and the general public. Experience with Intacct is highly desirable.


Physical Requirements

Physical requirements of this position typically include: reaching, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, repetitive motions, exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move.

This is a hybrid position that combines remote work with in-person work at our Folsom office one day per week with other dates as needed.
