As an intermittent employee, you earn paid leave and retirement benefits on a pro-rated basis. You will also qualify for health, dental and vision benefits for you and eligible family members once 480 hours are worked in a control period and coverage will be maintained when working required hours each following control period. (Control Periods = January 1 – June 30th and July 1st through December 31st.
The Health Facility Maintenance program provides individuals training of necessary knowledge and skills needed to meet the highest possible standards of cleaning for healthcare settings and brings healthcare areas of the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) to an acceptable level of sanitary conditions. The California Prison Industry Authority (CALPIA) is a self-supporting state agency that provides productive work opportunities and job skills to incarcerated individuals to reduce recidivism and increase public and prison safety.

Pursuant to the Public Health Orders, masks shall be worn in accordance with local county requirements, CDPH requirements, and directives issued by CDCR and CALPIA. COVID testing may be required under circumstances determined by the department. Both institutional and non-institutional testing protocols are constantly evaluated and will be revised based on most current public health ordinances. CDCR and CALPIA shall continue to assess conditions and may be required to reinstate, as needed, higher levels of testing and mitigation strategies to limit the spread of COVID-19 within our work locations.
