Job Title: Interviewer/Journalist (Full-Time Contract-to-Hire)

About the Role:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Interviewer to join our fast-paced media and newsgathering agency! This position is full-time at 40 hours per week with open availability. In this role, you will be responsible for conducting compelling and informative interviews with a diverse range of individuals in relation to topics of public interest that are being covered by our newsgathering agency:
- Experts: Academics, researchers, and industry professionals.
- Everyday People: Individuals with unique stories, perspectives, and experiences.
- Offenders: MUST be comfortable reaching out to incarcerated individuals for statements in relation to cases of interest that we are covering. Contact will be made mainly via emails, recorded phone calls, and open to recorded video visits.
Responsibilities:
- Conducting In-Depth Interviews:
- Researching interview subjects and developing insightful interview questions.
- Establishing rapport with interviewees and creating a comfortable and engaging interview environment.
- Actively listening and skillfully guiding the conversation to elicit insightful and compelling responses.
- Effectively managing interview time and ensuring all key information is captured.
- Preparing Interview Materials:
- Transcribing interviews accurately and efficiently.
- Summarizing key findings and identifying compelling quotes.
- Preparing interview materials for publication or broadcast, including audio and video recordings.
- Collaborating with the Team:
- Working closely with writers, management, and editors to ensure the successful integration of interview content.
- Contributing to story development and providing valuable insights.
- Staying Informed:
- Maintaining a strong understanding of current events and industry trends.
- Continuously developing interviewing skills and techniques.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in journalism, Communications, or a related field (Required)
- Proven experience as an interviewer in a professional setting (e.g., journalism, broadcasting).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and establish trust with diverse individuals.
- Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to gather information effectively and identify key talking points.
- Exceptional listening and active listening skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex information clearly and concisely.
- Strong work ethic and the ability to meet deadlines.
- Proficiency in audio and video recording platforms (preferred).
- Experience with transcription software (preferred).
