What are the responsibilities and job description for the Housekeeper position at Private Family?
Seeking an experienced housekeeper with a background in hotel housekeeping to work with a family in downtown Manhattan. Must have impeccable cleaning standards, meticulous attention to detail, and a strong work ethic. You will be responsible for cleaning, organization, and upkeep of all areas of the home adhering to a regular cleaning schedule while being flexible as needed (eg deep cleaning, ad hoc cleaning requests, unpacking groceries and deliveries, putting supplies and items away, maintaining a neat and orderly environment, etc). The ideal candidate will have full-time housekeeping experience and a professional demeanor. We are seeking someone with a professional, calm, and courteous presence who is extremely trustworthy, reliable, punctual, and adaptable.
Schedule:
- M-F 9:30-7:30 PM (with some flexibility on scheduling for the right candidate)
- Flexibility to work occasional weekends is a plus
Responsibilities:
Responsible for all housekeeping including deep cleaning and any related tasks
Adhere to a regular housekeeping schedule prioritizing certain areas of the home on different days and adjusting when needed
Clean and tidy bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen, common areas, and other rooms daily
Dust, vacuum, sweep, mop, and polish floors and surfaces
Change bed linens, replace towels, replenish toiletries and personal care products
Maintain cleanliness and function of frequently used areas such as kitchen throughout the day
Keep rooms and spaces neat and orderly by putting objects away and maintaining an organization system
All household laundry (with occasional ironing as needed)
Dispose of household trash and recycling promptly throughout the day
Assist with table setting and clean up of family’s meals (including children)
Keep stock of household item and cleaning supply inventories and notify when running low
Ability to multitask and prioritize based on family’s schedule (eg working from home, meetings, meal times)
Support other household staff as needed
Qualifications:
Authorization to work in the US
A minimum of 3 years of full-time housekeeping experience
Background in hotel housekeeping strongly preferred
Extremely high standards of cleanliness, sanitation, and hygiene
Knowledgeable about cleaning products and procedures (eg disinfectants and cleaners for different surfaces and materials, nontoxic and natural products where needed, dry vs damp/wet dusting, etc)
Comfortable with and enjoys the presence of small children and dogs
A proactive “can-do” attitude - willing to help wherever needed
Exceptional time management skills
Professional appearance and demeanor
Ability to work well with others, especially with other domestic staff and provide support as needed
Strong references
Fluency in oral and written English
Ability to travel domestically/to a weekend home is a plus
Comfort with technology (eg cleaning and scheduling apps) is a plus
Familiarity with dusting art, sculptures, antiques, and specialty materials is a plus
