Responsibilities
- Assist the optometrist during eye examinations and procedures.
- Prepare patients for examinations by taking medical histories and recording vital signs.
- Manage patient records, ensuring accuracy and compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Educate patients on proper contact lens care and eyewear options.
- Perform preliminary tests such as visual acuity, color vision, and depth perception assessments.
- Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the office and examination rooms.
- Handle retail sales of optical products, including glasses and contact lenses.
- Schedule patient appointments and manage follow-up visits.
Skills
- Strong knowledge of retail sales techniques to effectively assist patients in selecting eyewear.
- Familiarity with medical terminology related to eye care and optometry.
- Understanding of basic physiology and anatomy as it pertains to the visual system.
- Experience in patient care within a medical office setting.
- Proficiency in managing medical records while adhering to confidentiality standards.
- Ability to take and place contact lens order and instruct in I & R
- Knowledge of optical products, insurances and services is required
- Ability to answer phones and schedule patients using office EHR
- Commitment to maintaining a professional demeanor while providing compassionate care to patients.
