Job Description

Overview of the Role :

Performs complex analyses which necessitate knowledge of laboratory techniques, principles and equipment and their interrelationship; makes decisions based on resource information, facts, concepts, judgment, and sensitivity to contributing factors. Establishes and performs analyses. Interprets quality control and initiates appropriate action. Maintains competency in laboratory medicine by educational enhancement; assists in the training of new personnel; assists others in solving problems and making decisions; may assist in the development of new procedures and the revisions of those established.

Essential Job Duties :

Processes and performs analysis of the blood and other body fluids accurately and efficiently according to established procedures.

Maintains knowledge of techniques, instruments, and principles by participating in continuing education through attending seminars, meetings, in services and review of procedure manuals.

Maintains accurate and orderly records and files of tests performed.

Organizes and prioritizes work duties.

Maintains a safe and clean working environment and disposes of contaminated laboratory supplies according to OSHA rules and regulations.

Communicates clearly and effectively to all medical staff when handling requests and / or reports both by telephone and by personal contact.

Reviews and accurately inputs and extracts test results from the laboratory computer system.

Works assigned schedules which may include late nights, weekends, and some over time.

Assumes responsibility for technical interpretations of procedures performed.

Performs, evaluates, and documents quality control of equipment and procedures within established guidelines.

Performs and documents routine equipment preventive maintenance and minor repairs.

Participates in maintaining and stocking adequate inventory in supplies for the work area.

Recognizes problems, identifies cause and takes corrective action within minimum supervisory consultation.

Assists in development and implementation of new procedures as assigned.

Complies with established policies and procedures.

Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Maintains patient confidentiality.

Other duties as required.

Qualifications

Education / Certificate / License

Must be qualified as a Medical Technologist (MT) by the College of American Pathologists.

Minimum one full year of appropriate experience (2000 hours).

OR have required education and have completed one year of training in a formal-approved MT training program, who by virtue of education, training, experience and aptitude is judged to possess basic or general qualifications at least equal to those of a certified MT at career entry.

Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Laboratory Science (Required)

NCA, AMT, HEW or ASCP

Work Environment and Physical Demands :

Standard physician office laboratory; computerized laboratory setting.

Stands for long periods and walks short distances for most work.

Some lifting required.

Works in hazardous and biohazardous areas of the laboratory and is subject to cuts and burns from chemicals and equipment.

Equipment Used :

Uses tools and electrical devices to repair instruments and check equipment

Works with centrifuges, heat blocks, water baths, automated analyzers, incubators, microscopes, strainers, dispensers and calibrated glassware.

The hourly rate for this role is competitive, ranging from $30 to $34 per hour. Final compensation will be based on a comprehensive assessment of your qualifications, including years of experience, educational background, and location.
