What are the responsibilities and job description for the Peer Support Specialist / Recovery Coach position at Pro Active Behavioral Health?
Basic Function and Scope of Responsibilities: To provide patients, visitors and staff a safe and welcoming environment, helping patients navigate challenging situations and providing support and resources.
1. Support Staff documents and maintains patient records in Bestnotes in a manner that assures compliance with all agency policies and procedures and local, state, and federal regulations. Maintains accurate and up-to-date documentation as required, associated with program enrollment and patient needs assessment, individuals' progress, and other activities. RC/PS will document on patients focusing mainly on resources available to patient and where patient is at on developing plan for discharge.
2. RC/PS participates in weekly supervision to gain knowledge and communicate program and individual needs. Actively attends and participates in regular in-service trainings.
3. RC/PS complies with and implements the regulations, policies, and procedures which pertain to peer-delivered service goals and rules.
4. RC/PS provides therapeutic interventions with individuals as required and directed by the patient needs assessment.
5. RC/PS assists in crisis situations as appropriate, following emergency protocols and procedures. He/she practices and is competent in avoidance preventing escalation, and will work to prevent physical and mechanical restraint, avoiding crisis situations or to neutralizing crisis in progress.
6. RC/PS respects and honors individuals' rights and responsibilities and demonstrates professional boundaries and ethics as required by IBADCC and BPA.
7. RC/PS may perform office administration duties as requested by management.
8. RC/PS acts as an advocate for individuals when appropriate, both within the organization and with other entities.
9. RC/PS reflects positive peer values that include non-hierarchy and mutuality when appropriate.
10. RC/PS acts as a positive role model for individuals, showing a recovery and healthful lifestyle orientation.
11. Demonstrates responsibility for safety of individuals and property; is familiar with fire regulations and evacuation procedures
12. Adheres to mandatory abuse reporting laws and HIPAA/CFR 42requirements.
13. This position requires other duties as assigned. Duties include meal preparation and dishes, laundry, cleaning and maintaining patient rooms (which include sweeping mopping, sanitizing fixtures, and making beds) and cleaning and sanitizing bathrooms daily.
14. Must have a general understanding of cultural differences and have a strong appreciation of and respect for other cultures and diversity. RC/PS must demonstrate cultural competence and sensitivity, understanding of how culture influences impact behavioral and primary care health services.
Requirements: High School Diploma/GED Certificate in Peer Support Training or Certificate in Recovery Coach Training from a state approved training program.
