What are the responsibilities and job description for the Electronics Technician - PCB Layout position at Pro-Active Engineering?
The Electronics Technician will be responsible for designing, testing, and troubleshooting printed circuit boards (PCBs) while supporting the development and optimization of electronic systems.
Essential Functions
Essential Functions
- Design and create PCB layouts using CAD software (such as Altium Designer or KiCad) based on schematic diagrams and engineering requirements.
- Assemble, test, and debug electronic circuits and prototypes.
- Collaborate with engineers to ensure PCB designs meet functional, thermal, and manufacturability requirements.
- Create and maintain detailed documentation, including assembly instructions, bills of materials (BOM), and design revisions.
- Perform electrical testing and validation to ensure circuit performance and reliability.
- Support new product development and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Troubleshoot and repair PCBs and electronic devices, identifying root causes of failures.
- Coordinate with PCB fabrication and assembly vendors to ensure timely and quality production.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards, including IPC specifications and safety regulations.

Required Education and Experience
- Associate's degree or technical diploma in electronics engineering, electrical engineering technology, or a related field.
- Proven experience in PCB layout design and electronic circuit assembly/testing.
- Proficiency with PCB design software (Altium, Eagle, KiCad, or similar).
- Strong understanding of electronic components, circuit design, and signal integrity.
- Hands-on experience with soldering, rework, and surface-mount technology (SMT).
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Familiarity with industry standards (e.g., IPC-A-600, IPC-A-610) is a plus.
Preferred Education and Experience
- Experience with embedded systems and microcontroller programming.
- Knowledge of Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Testability (DFT) principles.
- Ability to interpret and create schematics and wiring diagrams.
