- Small caseload
- Around 12-15 students on IEPs and several students on 504s
- Some students who are less frequent in general ed. that might utilize the support
Duties : Provide mental health assessments, counseling, referrals, and intervention services, Develop service plans and conduct reviews as needed throughout the duration of treatment
Job Functions
Counsel students with interpersonal social adjustment problems.
Counsel students with academic or attendance problems.
Conduct group counseling and classroom guidance.
Serve as liaison : student, teacher, parent administrator, and community.
Identify students with special needs and suggest alternatives to meet those needs.
Assist students in orientation, course selection, and setting up programs of study. Conduct testing and interpret results to help students understand their aptitudes, abilities, and achievement.
Assist students with their plans for post high school education or vocational choices. Maintain student record files.
Perform other duties as assigned by the principal.
Ability to work an 8 hour duty day in the location or locations assigned by the supervisor. Physical and emotional ability to perform required work and move about as needed in the fast-paced, highly intensive school environment.
Maintain a neat and appropriate appearance. Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS :
Currently must hold or be eligible for Kansas certification as school counselor PreK-12.
A minimum of three years of successful teaching experience, preferably at the secondary level.
A strong personal commitment to promote the effective schools program.
A demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, administration, and parents.
A demonstrated knowledge of effective guidance techniques.
Meets the employment qualifications set forth by the Kansas City, Kansas Board of Education and the Kansas State Department of Education.
Teaching experience highly preferred
Primary Responsibilities :
Student Support :
Provide individual and group counseling to students dealing with academic, social, or emotional challenges.
Help students develop coping strategies, time management skills, and study habits.
Address bullying, peer pressure, and conflict resolution.
Academic Guidance :
Assist students in setting academic goals and developing plans to achieve them.
Work with teachers and parents to identify and address academic difficulties.
Help students explore post-secondary education and career opportunities.
Social and Emotional Development :
Promote positive mental health and emotional well-being.
Develop and deliver programs on topics like self-esteem, stress management, and interpersonal skills.
Identify at-risk students and provide appropriate interventions or referrals to outside resources.
Collaboration :
Work closely with teachers, administrators, and parents to support student success.
Participate in school teams to develop individualized education plans (IEPs) or intervention strategies for students.
Act as a liaison between the school, families, and external community resources.
Crisis Intervention :
Respond to crises involving students, such as incidents of abuse, neglect, or trauma.
Provide immediate support and connect students and families with appropriate services.
Administrative Duties :
Maintain accurate records and documentation of student interactions and progress.
Participate in developing school-wide policies and initiatives related to student well-being.
Conduct assessments to evaluate the effectiveness of counseling programs.
Pay Rate : $32-36an hour
