Job Description:
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) to join our school-based team in Dinwiddie, VA. This position will provide coverage from March 3, 2025, through May 16, 2025, with a schedule of 3 days per week (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday). The successful candidate will work directly under the supervision of a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) to assist with the delivery of speech and language services to students in a supportive educational environment.
As an SLPA, you will play a key role in helping students with speech and language disorders improve their communication skills, which will enhance their academic success and overall development. Responsibilities:
- Assist with the implementation of speech and language therapy plans developed by the supervising SLP.
- Provide individual and group therapy sessions for students with various speech and language disorders, including articulation, language comprehension, social communication, and fluency issues.
- Monitor and track student progress, recording data related to therapy goals and making observations about student performance.
- Provide support during therapy activities such as articulation drills, language development exercises, and social communication practice.
- Collaborate with teachers and staff to ensure students are receiving appropriate speech and language support in the classroom.
- Assist with preparation of therapy materials and classroom resources under the guidance of the SLP.
- Participate in meetings and training sessions to ensure compliance with IEP (Individualized Education Program) goals and educational plans.
- Assist with the documentation of therapy sessions and student progress, ensuring that all records are maintained according to district policies and guidelines.
- Provide feedback to the supervising SLP on student performance and any concerns that may arise during therapy sessions.
- Help students understand and follow therapy goals through a supportive and positive environment.
Qualifications:
- Associates degree or higher in Speech-Language Pathology or a related field.
- Virginia State certification as a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) or eligibility for certification.
- Previous experience working with children, preferably in a school or clinical setting, is strongly preferred.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to collaborate with students, teachers, and school staff.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail when tracking student progress and maintaining documentation.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team under the guidance of a supervising SLP.
- Compassionate, patient, and enthusiastic attitude, with a passion for supporting students communication development.
