Responsibilities
As a Press Set Up & Operate Technician, some of your essential duties and responsibilities may include:
- Able to perform preventative maintenance checks on press and die sets as well as make minor repairs and adjustments to machine tools and equipment as required.
- Performs activities related to the production of metal stampings including the operation of automatic and secondary power presses and secondary machines; and identifies the status of product at all stages of the manufacturing process.
- Visually inspects product during production for conformance to part configuration specifications. Utilizes in-process inspection gages and forms, if any, for dimensional verification and documentation. Segregates all scrap material into its proper containers. Identifies and submits product samples to Quality Assurance for In-Process and Last Piece inspection during production in accordance with the requirements.
- Operates all standard press room machinery including peripheral press equipment and production support equipment.
- Works with toolmakers to troubleshoot stamping problems related to slug pulling, misfeeds, scrap build up and segregation, part ejection, and product dimensional nonconformance.
- Performs short term preventive maintenance on production equipment, as required, in accordance with documented procedures.
- Ability to understand all Metal Forming processes (sequence of operation, components, etc.) and be the technical resource for this area. Responsibilities include, but not limited to: 1) assist product/tooling changeovers, 2) troubleshooting, 3) coaching/training new hires.
You may fit well into this role if you have:
- Two to five years of experience as a Press Set Up & Operator.
- The analytical ability to apply concepts learned in training programs, on the job training concepts, and ability to read non-complex blueprints to determine the source of, and affect repairs on, mechanical problems.
- Experience in verify dimensions, alignments, and clearances of finished parts for conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments such as calipers, gauge blocks, micrometers, and dial indicators and other instruments commonly found in a Tool Room.
- Use hand trucks, forklifts, hoists, and other material handling equipment to receive, store and transport material.
- Use precision measuring instruments to ensure product conforms to specifications. Follow established procedures for disposition of nonconforming products. Ability to perform procedures and operating steps as outlined in Quality Assurance Procedures.
- Follow the autonomous & preventative maintenance procedures to ensure proper equipment function and continuity.
- Understand this position requires use and understanding of technical manuals and job procedures.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- 18 years of age or older
- 1 year of specialized technical training, or equivalent work experience
- The ability to handle product and components up to 90% of the shift for performing quality inspections.
- Possess the physical stamina to walk, stand, stoop, or bend up to 100% of shift.
- Must be able to communicate with leadership, mechanics and co-workers for safety, quality, and production concerns.
- Must be able to use required inspection gauges and computer.
- Must be able to read and write as well as have a basic knowledge of mathematics (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) in order to complete required reports.
- Must possess the analytical ability to understand safety hazards.
- Must be able to manually lift with both hands up to 50Ibs. from floor level to waist level or vice-versa at least 3 times per shift.
- Must be able to tolerate heights and extreme temperatures if working outside.
- Must be able to tolerate limited exposure to certain chemicals (Silicone, cleaning solutions, lubrication, etc.)
- Experience with SAP process to enter and track malfunction notifications and spare parts procurement.
- Experience in Transfer Presses
- Experience in Progressive / Metal Stamping Presses
