Position Overview :

The Circulator / Operating Room Nurse is responsible for the direct and indirect provision of professional nursing care of the patients in the operating room. The nurse is accountable for ongoing evaluation and documentation of all components of care delivered to patients within the perioperative and outpatient environment utilizing the nursing process.

Essential Job Functions :

• Supporting the mission, vision, and core values of the organization.
• Following and completing assignments as given by the Nurse Manager.
• Creating and maintaining an atmosphere with a positive emphasis, as well as a calm environment throughout the department.
• Gathering supplies and equipment for surgical cases.
• Preparing surgery suite for surgical procedures.
• Restocking supplies in surgery suite when procedures have ended for the day.
• Monitoring of surgery inventory and notifying appropriate individual(s) when supplies are needed.
• Circulating for surgical procedures for various surgeons that operate at the facility.
• Operates equipment and performs technical skills according to policies and standards; learns new skills and seeks assistance appropriately.
• Individualizes patient care according to patient's health status and surgery / procedure being performed.
• Synthesizes patient data and implements action plan appropriate to situation (good judgment, critical thinking).
• Appropriate documentation of care.
• Maintaining patient privacy and confidentiality at all times.
• Maintaining patient's rights.
• Collaborates with appropriate disciplines in developing coordinated outcomes and interventions; interacts with team members regarding patient progress. Serves as a clinical liaison. Supervises non-licensed personnel as assigned.
• Supports and maintains a safe patient care environment.
• Recognizes situations (patient, staff, visitor, and physician) and significant assessment findings that require verbal or written communication and follow through to the appropriate people.
• Providing conscious sedation under direct supervision of physician.
• Carrying out physician orders.
• Demonstrates professional accountability.
• Observes facility policies, procedures, and processes.
• Participates in identifying and developing the performance improvement focus and criteria.
• Assumes accountability and responsibility for attendance and timely completion of competencies, mandatory programs.
• Purposefully conducts all aspects of job in an ethical manner in support of the organization's commitment to ethical behavior in all areas of personal and professional activity.
• Ensures that the Operating Rooms are maintained in a clean, safe, and sanitary manner.
• Records all information correctly and accurately on patient's chart.
• Follows established universal precautions in the use of gloves, gowns, and / or masks.
• Maintains confidentiality according to established policy.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications :

Physical Demands :

Visual Acuity : Average visual acuity is acceptable. Must be able to use visually oriented medical equipment. Must be able to read.

Auditory Acuity : Average auditory acuity acceptable. Must be able to use auditory oriented medical equipment. Must be able to communicate person to person and via telephone.

Hand / Eye Coordination : Must be able to and have knowledge to adequately use all equipment and supplies needed in the operating room.

Hand Dexterity : Average dexterity acceptable. Must be able to adequately perform hand movements in the categories as follows : fine manipulation, gross manipulation, simple grasping, firm grasping and hand twisting.

Body Mobility : Must be able to lift 1 to 50 lbs on a regular basis from floor to waist, waist to shoulder and overhead. Must be able to push, pull, bend, twist and reach up while performing duties.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in a temperature-controlled environment. Work may be stressful at times.
