Enterprise Network & Communications Architect

This role is both practical and strategic, involving the establishment of technical strategy, defining enterprise communication/network architectures, and leading solution implementations from a technology perspective. The position provides technical guidance and training to implementation teams, acts as a technology and best practices evangelist, and ensures that implementations adhere to the highest standards and principles. This role advises technical management and business areas on key architectural decisions regarding platforms and supporting technologies.

The position involves producing technical architectures that are scalable, maintainable, dependable, secure, and meet performance requirements. This position represents the Enterprise Information Technology (EIT) organization across the company, working to deliver technical solutions, ensuring continuity on major solution decisions, communicating technology solution value across all levels of the company, and implementing solutions according to defined architecture and technical standards.

Tasks & Responsibilities

• Responsible for enterprise communication/network architectural design and planning of complex IT system interactions.
• Should have a solid understanding of general IT application structures, supporting network components, and holistic IT functions, operations, security solutions, and dataflows of an enterprise network.
• Must be knowledgeable of past, present, and upcoming network technologies, standards, and best practices to plan and integrate solutions effectively.
• Develop enterprise networking architectural patterns, approaches, and design solutions; research new technologies and approaches.
• Create standards and roadmaps; develop recommendations for migrating to future standards.
• Design, architect, and automate on-premise, wide area, and cloud networking solutions; design and architect a multi-site, multi-cloud network infrastructure.
• Partner with vendors to select appropriate technical solutions.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to develop consensus, drive results, and execute projects on time and within budget.
• Manage several simultaneous initiatives from conception through implementation.
• Contribute to standards and design patterns; deliver solutions tailored to internal business requirements.
• Articulate design rationale; adapt solutions flexibly and iterate designs as required.
• Provide third-level support and input to teams diagnosing reported issues; provide root cause analysis to management and business teams.
• Work closely with senior management, architecture, application managers, and IT operations teams.
• Enhance efficiency via automation where possible; cross-train team members on projects and network technologies.
• Address security requirements across the enterprise through appropriate people, process, and technology applications.

Minimum Skills

• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to handle competing priorities.
• Experience in IT and system design.
• Understanding of common information architecture frameworks and information modeling methods.
• Knowledge of problem analysis, structured analysis and design, statistical programming languages, and database query language (SQL and NoSQL).
• Familiarity with enterprise-level business intelligence and data warehousing platforms.
• Understanding of basic statistics, machine learning algorithms, multivariate calculus, and linear algebra.

Minimum Education

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, or a related study, or equivalent project-related technical experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience as a data analyst or data scientist is highly desirable.
• In-depth experience designing and implementing enterprise information solutions.
• Experience with data visualization methods and design principles.
• Enterprise or Application Architecture certification preferred (Open Group, CM-ISRI, ESAI, IEAD, ITAC, TOGAF, etc.).
