Procon Consulting, a fast-growing professional services firm in McLean, VA with expertise in providing A/E/C industry program and project management for design and construction, project controls, commissioning, construction-related technology, and facilities management, seeks a Fire Protection Engineer to join our expanding team. The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring fire safety for the historic and high-profile facilities managed by the AOC. This position involves working with multidisciplinary teams to assess, design, and implement fire protection systems, conduct fire safety evaluations, and ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards.
Core Responsibilities:
· System Design and Review:
Design, review, and approve fire protection systems, including sprinklers, alarms, and suppression systems, for both new construction and renovation projects.
Ensure systems meet all applicable codes, standards, and regulations, including NFPA, OSHA, and ICC.
· Code Compliance:
Conduct fire safety inspections and assessments to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local fire codes.
Prepare reports and recommend corrective actions for non-compliant systems or conditions.
· Risk Assessment:
Evaluate fire risks associated with historic structures and develop innovative solutions to maintain safety while preserving architectural integrity.
Conduct fire modeling and simulations to assess building performance in fire scenarios.
· Collaboration:
Work closely with architects, engineers, contractors, and preservationists to integrate fire protection measures into project designs.
Provide expert guidance to leadership and staff on fire protection and life safety issues.
· Training and Education:
Develop and deliver fire safety training for AOC staff and building occupants.
Promote fire safety awareness and compliance through educational initiatives.
Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.
· Minimum of 5 years of experience in fire protection engineering, preferably with experience in historic or complex structures.
· Professional Engineer (PE) license in Fire Protection Engineering is highly desirable.
· Relevant certifications (e.g., NICET, CFPS) are a plus.
· Strong knowledge of fire protection principles, codes, and standards (e.g., NFPA, ICC, OSHA).
· Proficiency in fire modeling software (e.g., FDS, Pathfinder) and CAD tools.
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
· Commitment to public service and the preservation of historic structures.
