Position Summary

At Procon, safety is at the core of our operations. As a Safety Manager, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the well-being of our workforce and maintaining our high standards of safety on every project site. The Safety Manager is responsible for promoting a safe workplace by ensuring compliance with Procon’s Health and Safety Manual, OSHA standards, and ANSI guidelines. Key duties include conducting safety training, performing site inspections, and investigating incidents. The role plays a vital part in maintaining workplace safety and supporting claims management.

This position requires frequent travel to job sites, including travel to regions where Procon operates. Candidates must be willing and able to travel on short notice as project needs arise.

Key Responsibilities

  • General
  • Maintain professional relationships with Procon employees, General Contractors, and the public.
  • Adhere to policies and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook and Corporate Safety Manual.
  • Complete assignments professionally and in a timely manner.
  • Keep certifications current and seek professional growth and development opportunities.
  • Participate in regularly scheduled Safety Team meetings.
  • Use company resources responsibly to benefit Procon.
  • Demonstrate integrity in all actions and communications.
  • Be available for phone calls during job site operations.
  • Assist with tasks as directed by the Director of Safety.
  • Training and Education
  • Collaborate with Safety Team members to ensure all Procon employees are up to date on safety training and certifications.
  • Instruct safety-related courses.
  • Assess the training needs of the assigned region and deliver timely and relevant training.
  • Participate in project kickoff and safety meetings to provide safety insights.
  • Coordinate with the Estimating and Project Management teams on project safety planning.
  • Job Site Inspections
  • Conduct regular site inspections and safety audits.
  • Accompany OSHA during site visits and safety walks.
  • Ensure OSHA standards are understood and followed on all job sites.
  • Incident Investigation and Reporting
  • Investigate workplace incidents and injuries, submitting comprehensive reports within 48 hours.
  • Reports should be detailed, practical, and include relevant photographs.
  • Administer post-incident drug screens as required.
  • Administrative/Clerical
  • Develop and distribute Toolbox Talks as needed.
  • Issue safety certifications.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date safety training records.
  • Discuss job-related expenses with Project Management prior to making purchases.
  • Team Leadership
  • Lead and mentor members of the Safety Team, providing guidance and support in daily operations and long-term projects. Provide constructive feedback and identify opportunities for development.
  • Delegate responsibilities effectively, ensuring that all team members understand their roles and are equipped to perform their tasks.
  • Foster a collaborative team environment by encouraging open communication, sharing best practices, and addressing challenges as they arise.
  • Serve as a role model by demonstrating a strong commitment to safety protocols and upholding Procon’s values in all team interactions.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Safety to assess team workloads, resource needs, and opportunities for improvement.

Key Competencies:

  • Strong leadership and decision-making skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of OSHA and ANSI standards.
  • Ability to perform risk assessments and implement effective safety solutions.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, especially in high-pressure situations.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Proven leadership abilities and strong communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in training and educating employees on safety protocols.
  • Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with coworkers.
  • Required: OSHA 30 certification, valid driver’s license, and clean driving record.
  • Preferred: OSHA 500 certification, CPR/AED instructor certification, CHST certification.
  • Ability to traverse uneven terrain at job sites, including bending, standing, walking, climbing, crouching, and crawling.
  • Comfortable working at heights.
  • 3 years of experience in construction safety.
  • Willingness to travel up to 100% of the time.
