Role: Laboratory Andrologist
Overview:
We welcome experienced and entry level candidates.
IVF Virginia is a high complexity CLIA laboratory which offers services related to reproductive medicine. We are seeking a candidate to join our team to perform daily responsibilities at our Newport News location.
Schedule Requirements:
● Full time: 35-40 hours per week.
● On-call rotation for weekends and holidays. Requires availability once every four weekends. Weekend procedures require travel to our Chesapeake location.
Primary Location: On-site at Procreate Fertility Center’s Newport News location.
● Entry level hires will require a minimum of 2 months training on site at our Chesapeake location.
. Responsibilities:
● Performs testing including comprehensive semen analysis, sperm count, motility, progression, morphology, viability and retrograde semen analysis.
● Performs procedures including sperm cryopreservation, testicular sperm extraction processing and cryopreservation, and preparation of semen samples for intrauterine inseminations and IVF.
● Performs laboratory quality control (QC)
● Performs ID verification to ensure correct chain of custody during specimen processing and use for both andrology and embryology procedures.
● Communicates with patients to schedule appointments, relay results, coordinate the shipment in and out of sperm specimens, and manage referrals.
● Maintains accurate documentation and collection of data.
● Performs other duties as assigned which may be related to sperm banking, patient consenting, preparation for IVF and IUI cycles and tracking of success rates.
● Supports and actively participate in initiatives designed to improve individual and organizational performance
Workplace Hazards:
● Use of liquid nitrogen at ultra low temperatures
● Handling of biohazardous specimens
Required Skills:
● This position requires the ability to perform mostly independently, with reliable communication between supervisor and other team members, who may be off-site. To function in this environment, a successful candidate must have strong organizational, time management, and critical thinking skills.
● Excellent attention to detail.
● Excellent professional verbal and written communication.
● Mathematical skills needed to utilize simple formulas, perform conversions, and calculate percentages and averages.
● Proficient in the ability to access, input, and retrieve information from a computer.

Required Experience:
● At least 6 months of laboratory experience resulting in the basic understanding of the purpose of and use of laboratory equipment, PPE, aseptic technique and quality control. Experience as part of an educational program is acceptable.
Required Education:
1) Have earned a Bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution.
OR
2) Have earned an associate degree in laboratory science, or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution.
Physical Requirements:
● Ability to interpret colorimetric determinations. Certain color blindness conditions may impact ability to perform testing.
Favorable Experience and Skills
● Microscopy
● Quality control
● Specimen handling and processing
● Familiarity with CLIA, Joint Commission, OSHA, HIPAA and FDA regulatory guidelines
● Communication with patients, as a medical professional
● Experience with electronic health record systems.
● Spanish fluency
