Position Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Gas Turbine Material and Process Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the selection, analysis, and optimization of materials and manufacturing processes for gas turbine components to ensure performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness. You will work closely with engineering, manufacturing, repair, and quality teams to drive improvements in material selection, process engineering, and overall product performance.
Position Responsibilities
- Lead the selection of advanced materials for gas turbine components, considering factors like material behaviors, strength, heat resistance, corrosion, fatigue properties, life and cost.
- Conduct materials testing and analysis to determine suitability for specific turbine applications.
- Develop and implement material specification documents for components in accordance with industry standards.
- Identify and implement manufacturing and repair processes for gas turbine components, ensuring that they meet the design intent and performance criteria.
- Collaborate with manufacturing and repair teams to improve existing processes and introduce new technologies for material, forging, coating, welding, casting, and machining.
- Develop and optimize thermal and mechanical processing techniques (e.g., heat treatment, coating deposition) to enhance material properties and performance.
- Investigate material-related failures and process inconsistencies, conducting root cause analysis to prevent recurrence.
- Provide technical recommendations for process improvements based on failure analysis, material trends, and operational feedback.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams, including design, manufacturing, repair, quality assurance, customers, and suppliers, to ensure material and process compatibility with overall design requirements.
- Support new product development efforts by advising on material and process choices that best align with performance and cost goals.
- Ensure all materials and processes comply with relevant industry standards, regulations, and customer requirements.
- Prepare technical reports, material specifications, process flow diagrams, and other documentation to communicate findings and recommendations to internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Identify opportunities for improving material selection, processing methods, and overall efficiency.
- Contribute to the development of best practices and technical standards related to materials and processes for gas turbines.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. Advanced degrees (Master’s or Ph.D.) are preferred.
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in material selection, process engineering, or related roles within the aerospace, power generation, or gas turbine industries.
- Experience with high-temperature materials, coatings, or superalloys commonly used in gas turbines is highly desirable.
- In-depth knowledge of materials science, including metal alloys, composites, and coatings.
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes such as fabrication, casting, forging, welding, heat treatment, peening, and surface coatings.
