Site Quality Inspector (Civil)
Position Summary
Perform in-process and final inspections, field tests and maintain quality records related to civil activities including but not limited to site preparation, concrete foundation installation, structural backfill installation, structural steel and miscellaneous support installation, grouting installation to ensure that quality standards and process controls are being met throughout the field build process. This position is a site-based position and will require extended stays away from home.
Position Responsibilities
- Conduct inspections relevant to civil discipline, including, but not limited to concrete pre-pour, concrete reinforcement/rebar, concrete placement monitoring, concrete samples, structural backfill installation, grouting installation and all mandatory testing per project specification and applicable standards.
- Witness density testing and ensure that daily testing documentation is in order including density log, material log and routine testing.
- Coordinate with third party laboratory for concrete and backfill material daily inspections and testing.
- Maintain concrete and backfill material installation records up today including concrete breaks log, grout breaks log, density test log.
- Conduct inspection to structural steel structural erection and miscellaneous supports installation and testing.
- Conduct inspections of underground installations related to civil work, such firewater system components, stormwater system, culverts etc.
- Perform and coordinate with subcontractors/vendors related to civil works such water ponds and buildings.
- Enforce ITP, project specifications and engineering documentation proactively.
- Monitor and enforce ITP, project specification to subcontractors, ensure records/turnover documentation are current.
- Identify and control all NCR related to the civil scope of the project. Issue Nonconformance Reports when there is a deficiency and ensure their timely close out.
- Follow up on inspection remediation process for any civil design changes or rework related to an NCR.
- Ensure timely completion of paperwork and turnover documentation and assist with project completions.
- Monitor associated discipline work and prepare, issue quality reports/forms and review records.
- Assist SQM in administrating Project Quality Control Plan and Company Quality Manual.
- Ensure adherence to code requirements and ensure that all associated documentation and quality records are filled out correctly and maintained.
- Coordinate Quality activities with area/disciple supervisors and owner/client when applicable.
- Ensure, through inspection, that work is conducted per procedures and ensure all required documentation is filled out thoroughly, completely and maintained per company policy.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous exposure to complex civil works and installation,
- Exposure to Hazardous Area installations
- A working knowledge of ACI/ASTM/ASCE/AISC/AWS/AASHTO/NFPA codes and standards relating to civil work.
- Familiar with hot and cold weather concreting, structural steel erection and heavy equipment grouting installation.
- Working knowledge of construction standards, codes of practice and regulations/legislation relating to civil work, site preparation, roads, concrete and structural steel installation and others that may apply.
- Knowledge of safety legislation and regulations
- Associates degree in an Engineering discipline.
- Read and interpret civil and structural drawings.
- Familiar with concrete, soil testing and soils characteristics, proctor test interpretation and application.
- Ability to perform routine Inspection and Test Plan tasks without supervision.
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience working within an ISO 9001 quality system.
- Proficiency in use of measurement and calibrated tooling.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
