Payroll Specialist

Key Responsibilities
· Monitor and coordinate deadlines for the collection and reporting of payroll data and audit reports, and analyze PeopleSoft processes.
· Verify completion of bi-weekly payroll and general ledger interface processes and provide documentation required for payroll and tax deposits.
· Coordinate with IT to maintain the payroll system and implement improvements.
· Complete reporting and resolve compliance issues for state and federal regulatory agencies.
· Assist in the development of the payroll budget.
· Process time and labor reports and verify accuracy.
· Prepare and balance bi-weekly, quarterly, and year-end taxes and tax forms.
· Balance monthly general ledger activity for tax accounts.
· Prepare IRS Form W-2s and reconcile all related activities.
· Maintain confidential payroll files.
· Prepare reports for Accounting leadership.
· Calculate and record non-cash taxable benefits for employees.
· Stay up-to-date with payroll-related laws and regulations, and recommend changes to ensure compliance.
· Serve as a backup to other payroll team members.
· Mentor less experienced staff.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
Education:
· Bachelor's degree in a related area or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
· Experience:
· Payroll Specialist: Five (5) years of related experience.
· Lead Payroll Specialist: Seven (7) years of related experience.
· Skills and Abilities:
· Strong knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations affecting payroll functions.
· Knowledge of taxable benefits and general accounting.
· Proficiency in using ERP payroll and time/labor modules (PeopleSoft preferred).
· Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
· Strong communication skills—both verbal and written.
· Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
· Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with individuals at all levels.
· Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
· Strong problem-solving abilities.
· Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and meet deadlines.
· Ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality.
· Competencies
· Hybrid Remote Schedule: This position offers a blend of remote and onsite work if department and business needs allow, and with approval from direct supervision. The hybrid schedule typically includes three days onsite and up to two days remote.

Salary : $70,000 - $80,000
