What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mortgage Underwriter position at ProFed Federal Credit Union?
POSITION SUMMARY
Responsible for evaluating and ensuring accuracy and completion of mortgage loan files. Review appraisals and confirm all income and supporting documentation. Determine acceptability of mortgage loan requests as it relates to investor guidelines. Additionally responsible for providing support in secondary market functions.
QUALIFICATIONS
Requires an organized and motivated individual with the ability to comprehend investor guidelines and apply sound judgment in mortgage loan decisioning and recommendations. Must possess or develop in-depth knowledge of credit union mortgage products, services, and procedures. Requires a high level of accuracy and attention to detail as well as the ability to complete detailed documentation and perform mathematical computation. Prior underwriting experience preferred – specifically with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac GSE requirements. Ability to understand self-employed income calculations and utilize problem-solving techniques when borrower qualification issues arise.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to view a terminal screen and operate a computer keyboard. Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively with others. Must be able to sit or stand for prolonged periods.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensure that mortgage loan files are accurate and complete
- Confirm loan origination software matches mortgage file documentation
- Monitor acceptability of mortgage requests as related to investor guidelines
- Provide support to mortgage staff as needed
- Administer Federal Home Loan Bank grant programs
- Assist with secondary market functions such as pipeline management, compliance, and investor commitments
- Additional duties as assigned
