We are looking for a qualified Mechanical Inspector to join our team and help ensure that plumbing and mechanical systems in new and existing buildings comply with all applicable codes and standards.
Position Overview:
Mechanical Inspector, you will be responsible for inspecting the installation, alteration, and repair of plumbing and mechanical systems in residential, commercial, and industrial buildings. You will ensure compliance with Michigan plumbing and mechanical codes, zoning ordinances, and local regulations. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented professional with strong knowledge of construction and building codes and has excellent communication skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform inspections omechanical installations to ensure compliance with applicable codes and safety standards.
- Conduct on-site evaluations of residential, commercial, and industrial properties for new construction, remodeling, or repairs.
- Review and approve permit applications, construction plans, and specifications related to mechanical systems.
- Document and report inspection results, noting any deficiencies or violations, and provide guidance on necessary corrective actions.
- Communicate with contractors, architects, engineers, and property owners to address inspection findings and code compliance requirements.
- Keep detailed records of all inspections and follow up on outstanding violations or corrections.
- Stay up-to-date with changes in local, state, and national mechanical codes, ordinances, and regulations.
- Provide technical support and interpretation of mechanical codes to colleagues, clients, and local authorities.
- Assist in resolving disputes related to code compliance and inspection results.
- Attend ongoing training and certification programs to maintain and enhance professional credentials.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent (additional technical or vocational training in mechanical systems, or related fields is a plus).
- Current State of Michigan PA 54 Inspector License or Mechanical License Holder:in 3 of the 4 categories below for at least 1 year:
Hydronic Heating and Cooling and Process Piping
HVAC Equipment
Refrigeration
Fire Suppression
- In-depth knowledge of Michigan mechanical codes, safety standards, and local regulations.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities with excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, plans, and technical drawings.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines.
- Proficiency with inspection software and basic computer skills (Microsoft Office 365, etc.).
- Valid Michigan driver’s license and reliable transportation for on-site inspections.
