Professional Development Technician

Location: Professional Development Department

12 months, 8 hours/day

Grade 17, $17.16/hour

Non-Interim Position

Purpose Statement

The Professional Development Technician’s purposes are technical, clerical, analytical, and interpersonal. Maintaining and updating the Professional Learning database includes assisting district personnel with enrolling in courses; providing personnel information about courses and their transcripts; providing support to the Director of Professional Development; creating and explaining data reports for vested departments; providing exceptional customer service; and monitoring substitute usage that is paid by Title IIA funds.

 

This job reports to the Professional Development Director.

 

Essential Functions

Assists Director of Professional Development and the Professional Development Specialist:

  • Develop the master course schedule, ensuring courses and maximum number of participants are accurate.
  • Collaborate to ensure the accuracy of Presenters' professional growth hours earned; ask questions that arise from completed workshop proposals as they are entered into the Professional Learning system 

Technical Functions:

  • Update and maintain the Professional Learning database.
  • Perform enrollment and withdrawal activities to comply with established requirements.
  • Input pertinent, accurate data into personnel transcripts.
  • Prepare manual and electronic reports and documents (e.g. ad hoc reports, Google Sheets, enrollment information, course sign-in sheets, course information, course schedules, completion credit reports, etc.) to provide up-to-date information and/or historical reference in accordance with established administrative guidelines and legal requirements.
  • Use documents and reports to communicate information to the Director of Professional Development, Professional Development Specialist, and to the Human Resources Department.
  • Document and record evidence based personnel course completions.
  • Assist instructors and vendors with room set up and technical needs.

Clerical Functions:

  • Perform general clerical functions (e.g. copying, data entry, filing, etc.) to support office operations.
  • Answer telephone systems to screen calls, transfer calls, respond to inquiries, and/or take and deliver messages.
  • Schedule a variety of activities (e.g. appointments, building use, etc.) to make necessary arrangements for administrators and supervisors.
  • Create calendar events to display all open courses available for staff registration; invite others for building use confirmations.

Analytical Functions:

  • Interpret pertinent data entered into a commercial database, ensuring accuracy.
  • Assist the Curriculum Department with maintaining and analyzing data related to personnel endorsement and curriculum course requirements. 
  • Verify professional development and professional growth data, ensuring the accuracy of professional growth hours reported to the Director of Professional Development and the Human Resources Department, thus impacting salary and recertification.

Interpersonal Functions:

  • Greet individuals and vendors entering the building, respond to inquiries; and/or direct individuals to appropriate locations in accordance with established building security procedures.
  • Respond to questions from a variety of internal and external sources to provide information and/or direction.
  • Support department in coordinating a variety of projects, functions and/or program components (e.g. meetings, courses, supplies, etc.) to complete activities and/or deliver services in a timely fashion. 

Other Functions

Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

SKILLS - Skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: self-starting motivation; organizational strategies; ability to problem solve; operating standard office equipment including software; preparing and maintaining accurate manual and electronic records; providing excellent customer service; business telephone etiquette, screening telephone calls, taking and delivering messages; using pertinent software applications, especially Google Docs, Sheets, Forms, Calendar, and Email.

 

KNOWLEDGE - Knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: basic math calculations using fractions, decimals, percents, and/or ratios; read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and/or present information to others; office practices and etiquette; codes/laws/rules/regulations/policies; recordkeeping and record retention practices.

 

ABILITY - Ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: maintaining confidentiality; working as part of a team with flexibility to focus on unexpected needs; working with detailed information; working with frequent interruptions; setting priorities; adapting to changing priorities; communicating and working with diverse groups of individuals; working under minimal supervision; working within time constraints; ability to read, write and communicate clearly in English.

 

RESPONSIBILITY - Responsibilities include: ability to work under limited supervision; follow standardized practices and/or methods; lead, guide, and/or coordinate others; occasionally utilize resources from other work units to perform the job's functions; schedule activities, meetings, and/or events; gather, collate, and/or classify a variety of data; problem solve using data. Work Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 85% sitting, 10% walking, and 5% standing. The job is performed in a generally hazard free environment.

 

Experience:  Job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is desired. Intermediate experience level working in Google Docs, Sheets, Forms, Calendar, and Email. 

Education:    High school diploma or equivalent.
