Position Summary:
The Land Survey Processing Technician is responsible for converting field-collected data into accurate and detailed drawings, models, and maps for use in land surveys, development, construction, and engineering projects. This role involves processing survey data using various CAD and GIS software, ensuring precision and adherence to project specifications. The technician will interpret data from various sources, including GPS and total station instruments, to create consumable, high-quality deliverables that facilitate decision-making and project planning. Strong attention to detail and proficiency in survey processing software are essential.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Processes and drafts field survey data into various CAD or GIS formats
- Ensures accuracy and consistency in drawings and models
- Interprets field notes, sketches, and electronic data for project requirements
- Collaborates with field staff to verify data accuracy and resolve any discrepancies
- Uses experience, education, and judgment to make informed decisions
- Retains knowledge and building on previous experiences to increase capabilities to increase capabilities in breadth and complexity
- Organizes multiple tasks and completes them in an orderly fashion
- Effectively communicates and coordinates with the land surveyor and other PEC divisions in order to complete tasks on numerous projects
- Organizes project information and drawings files in a manner that is accessible and understandable for current and future use
- Research and understands client drafting and CAD standards and its relevance to design process
- Other projects and responsibilities may be added at the company’s discretion
Special Knowledge, skills and abilities:
- Expertise in CAD software (such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation) for mapping and data management
- Strong understanding of land surveying principles, coordinate systems, and measurement techniques
- Proficient in processing data from survey instruments such as GPS, total stations, and laser scanners, as well as translating this data into accurate models
- Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy and quality in drawings and models, with a focus on precision
- Capable of interpreting survey data, field notes, and project specifications to ensure deliverables meet requirements
- Ability to collaborate effectively with surveyors, engineers, and project teams to verify data accuracy and resolve technical issues
- Skilled in identifying and resolving data discrepancies or inaccuracies
- Willingness to stay current with industry advancements, software updates, and new survey methodologies
- Capable of managing multiple projects with tight deadlines, ensuring timely completion of deliverables
- Meet and understand critical deadlines through efficient time management and effective communication
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
Education and Experience:
- Obtain or currently working towards a certificate or degree providing training in CAD software. Third party certification is a plus
