Job Summary:
The Director of Nursing (DON) is responsible for overseeing all clinical operations within a home health care agency. This role ensures the delivery of high-quality patient care, compliance with regulatory standards, and effective management of nursing staff. The DON collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to enhance patient outcomes while optimizing agency performance.
Key Responsibilities: Leadership & Administration:
- Direct and oversee daily clinical operations of the home health care agency.
- Ensure compliance with state, federal, and accreditation standards, including Medicare, Medicaid, and Joint Commission requirements.
- Monitor performance metrics and implement quality improvement initiatives.
Clinical Oversight & Patient Care Management:
- Supervise nursing staff and ensure proper patient assessments, care plans, and treatment execution.
- Conduct case reviews and audits to maintain high standards of care and regulatory compliance.
- Address patient concerns, complaints, and incidents while ensuring effective resolutions.
- Ensure proper documentation and timely submission of clinical records.
Staff Development & Training:
- Recruit, train, and retain qualified nursing staff.
- Ensure staff compliance with continuing education, licensure, and certifications.
- Foster a collaborative and professional work culture that prioritizes patient care excellence.
Compliance & Quality Assurance:
- Monitor adherence to HIPAA, OSHA, and home health regulations.
- Stay up to date with changes in home health regulations and ensure agency compliance.
Collaboration & Communication:
- Serve as a liaison between patients, families, physicians, and healthcare providers.
- Collaborate with referral sources, hospitals, and community partners to support patient care.
Qualifications:
- Education: Registered Nurse (RN) with a valid state license; BSN required, MSN preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years in home health care, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
- Certifications: BLS/CPR required; additional certifications (e.g., CHPN, Home Health Nursing Certification) are a plus.
- Skills: Strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Technical Proficiency: Experience with electronic health records (EHR) and home health software systems.
Work Environment & Schedule:
- Full-time position with on-call responsibilities as needed.
- Office-based with field visits to patient homes and agency locations.
- Travel may be required for staff supervision and external meetings.
