ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Mechanical engineers work on a project from the initial brief, through the design and development stage, to the testing of one or more prototypes, right through to final manufacture and implementation.
- Projects can vary significantly, from researching and developing to improving production processes.
- Designs and implements cost-effective equipment modifications to help improve safety, reliability and throughput.
- Develops a project specification with colleagues, often including those from other engineering disciplines.
- Develops, tests and evaluates theoretical designs.
- Discusses and solves complex problems with manufacturing departments, sub-contractors, suppliers and customers.
- Makes sure a product can be made again reliably and will perform consistently in specified operating environments.
- Manages projects using engineering principles and techniques.
- Plans and designs new production processes.
- Produces details of specifications and outline designs.
- Recommends modifications following prototype test results.
- Uses research, analytical, conceptual and planning skills, particularly mathematical modeling and computer-aided design.
- Considers the implications of issues such as cost, safety and time constraints.
- Works with other professionals, within and outside the engineering sector;
- Monitors and commissions plants and systems.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Degree: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
- Experience: 2 years area; Engineering (Power Generation experience preferred)
- Must be proficient in 2D and 3D design tools such as Solidworks (with PDM), AutoCAD, Adobe, and Microsoft products.
- Core Competencies in any / all of the following areas: ASME, ASTM, ANSI Standard, UL Standards.
- Ability to size equipment.
- Evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering methods, techniques, procedures and criteria, using independent judgment with limited oversight.
