Overview:
We are seeking a talented IBM iSeries Programmer with a proven track record of working with legacy applications on the IBM iSeries (AS/400) platform and a strong understanding of modernizing legacy systems applications. The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and modernizing critical business applications.
Key Responsibilities:
- IBM iSeries Development:
- Design, develop, and maintain business applications running on the IBM iSeries platform (AS/400).
- Write, maintain, and optimize RPG, CL, and DB2/SQL programs on the IBM iSeries platform.
- Analyze business requirements and translate them into technical specifications and solutions.
- Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve application issues and performance bottlenecks on the iSeries system.
- Support ongoing system upgrades, patches, and maintenance for IBM iSeries applications.
- Collaboration & Documentation:
- Work closely with business unit managers, and other stakeholders to ensure that modernized applications meet business goals and objectives.
- Write clear, maintainable code and documentation to ensure future support and enhancement of systems.
- Provide training and knowledge transfer to other team members and end-users on the use and maintenance of modernized systems.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Stay current with trends and best practices in both IBM iSeries development and modern web technologies.
- Contribute ideas for improving application performance, security, and user interface.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Technical Skills:
- Strong experience with IBM iSeries (AS/400), RPG, CL programming, and DB2/SQL
- Must be fluent with RPG-Free, Built-in functions, Sub procedures and Service programs.
- Experience with tools like IBM WebSphere, Rational Developer for i, or similar iSeries development environments is a plus.
- Problem-Solving & Analytical Skills:
- Ability to analyze complex systems, identify issues, and implement solutions in a timely manner.
- Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills for both legacy and modern systems.
- Communication & Collaboration:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Experience documenting technical processes and procedures clearly and concisely.
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
- 5 years of experience working with IBM iSeries (AS/400) applications, including RPG/CL programming and DB2/SQL.
- Experience in modernizing legacy systems and developing web-based applications.
