Primary Responsibilities
- Determines normal and abnormal components of body fluids by conducting chemical analyses of blood, urine, and other specimens.
- Analyzes blood cells by counting and identifying cells, using microscopic techniques and procedures.
- Ensures operation of analyzers, and other laboratory equipment by calibrating; completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories.
- Maintains laboratory supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies.
- Provides medical technology information by answering questions and requests by Providers.
- Prepares reports of technological findings by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
- Maintains inter- and intradepartmental work flow by fostering a spirit of cooperation.
- Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control and hazardous waste policies and protocols; following identification procedures.
- Maintains patient confidence and protects the Laboratory by keeping information confidential.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s / Associates Degree in Clinical Laboratory Technology from a program registered by the NYS Department of Education or Bachelor’s Degree in the major of biology, chemistry or physical sciences from an accredited college or university.
- One year in a clinical laboratory (Completion of an internship program at a qualified institution is acceptable).
- License as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist/Technician by the State of New York based on the on the Special Provision of the Regulations of the Commissioner in accordance with the Clinical Laboratory Technology Practice Act.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills required.
- Proficient computer skills.
- ASCP registry preferred.
- Multitasking abilities and flexibility are a plus
