Position Summary:
The Lead Clinical Nurse will provide operational and administrative support to the Nurse Manager. The Lead Clinical Nurse will be responsible for the overall assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care at New York Proton Center. The Lead Clinical Nurse, under the direction of the Nurse Manager, will oversee clinical nursing care, ensuring compliance with established regulations and standards, including quality assurance and accurate medical record documentation. The Lead Clinical Nurse will also provide clinical nursing care, ensuring compliance with established regulations and standards including quality assurance and accurate medical record documentation.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide supervisory support to Nurse Manager for clinical nursing, medical assistant, nutrition, child life, unit coordinator and PACU staff.
- Assist with scheduling and patient assignments.
- Update policies and procedures.
- Provide orientation and training to staff.
- Interview patients measure vital signs, place IVs.
- Listen to patient and caregiver questions and give well informed answers in a way patients and caregivers can understand and know when to defer questions to physicians.
- Ensure appropriate assessment of patients with acute and chronic problems related to cancer and cancer therapies according to evidence-based practice in adherence with organizational policies and procedures as well as regulatory requirements.
- Develop and maintain an excellent level of patient-centric care.
- Oversee and coordinate with Research Coordinators and Research Nurses for patient enrollment and compliance for clinical trials or protocols.
- Participate in all Quality Improvement projects by providing input as it pertains to nursing components for safe and efficient patient care.
- Comply with all New York Proton Center policies related to Privacy Rules established under the Health Information Privacy and Portability Act of 1996 (HIPAA).
- Perform other administrative and job-related duties and clinical responsibilities, as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Prior managerial experience preferred, including prior Radiation Oncology experience.
- Graduated from accredited School of Nursing, required.
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing, required.
- Current valid NY Registered Nurse License, required.
- Certification in oncology or specialty practice area, preferred.
- BLS certified required, PALS preferred, ACLS preferred.
- Ability to multi-task, manage multiple projects at one time, and rapidly change priorities based on patient and practice needs.
- High integrity with respect to maintenance of confidential patient information.
- Composure under pressure.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office, experience with data management, and efficiency using electronic medical record systems. Oncology Information System, ARIA experience preferred.
