SSG-Project 180 turns lives around through innovative, wraparound services that keep people out of institutions and in their communities. Project 180 is a leader in the forensic treatment space, offering high-quality, specialized treatment programs that serve thousands of justice-involved individuals. Our programs span criminal justice intercepts and include pre-arrest interventions, court-based diversions, jail in-reach, and intensive post-release services. Project 180 operates in partnership with County agencies including the Department of Mental Health (DMH), the Department of Health Services (DHS), and the Justice, Care and Opportunities Department (JCOD). Annually, we serve over justice-involved 1,500 individuals.
Position Summary
Project 180 (P180) seeks an experienced recruitment leader to serve as our first Manager of Recruitment and Onboarding. The Manager is a people person, energized by interpersonal engagement, who will oversee recruitment strategy for the organization and lead the design and implementation of equitable systems related to talent recruitment, hiring, and onboarding. The Manager will become fluent in our varied programs, roles, and impact and be motivated by finding diverse, mission-aligned individuals to play a part in the next chapters of the Project 180 story. The Manager will shepherd candidates through the hiring process and then the onboarding process, ensuring each new employee has the support they need from the submission of their application until they are under the guidance of their direct supervisor. The Manager leverages excellent organizational skills to manage multiple workstreams on aggressive timelines, all while maintaining a commitment to excellent customer service for all stakeholders with whom they engage. The ideal candidate for this role will be committed to reducing justice involvement within Los Angeles County through community-based mental health programs. They will bring a strong candidate cultivation background and will have an entrepreneurial spirit.
P180 is housed within the nonprofit Special Service for Groups (SSG), which oversees and implements all administrative aspects of HR on behalf of P180. This position works on the People & Culture team, reporting to the Senior Director of People & Culture and collaborating closely with individuals at all levels of the organization, as well as with the HR team at SSG, outside consultants and vendors.
Essential Functions
Talent Pipeline Development and Hiring (~80%)
- Work with P180 leadership and program leaders to define annual hiring and recruiting plans aligned with organizational goals, designed to attract and retain skilled, diverse staff.
- Partner with the Sr. Director of People & Culture to design and refine hiring protocols, guidelines, and best-practice hiring processes.
- Curate trainings and resources on best-practice hiring processes for supervisors.
- Oversee maintenance of job descriptions and management of hiring processes.
- Serve as the primary administrator of the organization’s applicant tracking system (ATS) and paid job board accounts (e.g. LinkedIn Recruiter, ZipRecruiter).
- Ensure roles are posted and candidates are effectively sourced and recruited.
- Conduct initial phone screens for candidates.
- Shepherd hiring managers through their hiring processes and serve as a resource and thought partner.
- Generate and send offer letters to candidates and support with the generation of annual pay increase / promotion documentation for employees.
- Support hiring managers with reference checks for candidates.
- Oversee new hire communication and ensure their preparation for orientation.
- Monitor data to make continuous improvements to talent and hiring processes.
- Build partnerships with local graduate schools to develop candidate pipelines for positions.
- Manage the employee referral process.

The Manager will be based in the Project 180 office in downtown Los Angeles and will need to perform job duties across sites. This role is eligible for a hybrid work structure where the Manager may work remotely for one day per week.
Physical Requirements
The employee is expected to drive or have another mode of transportation between the office and sites, listen, and speak in order to complete job requirements.
