Supervises: Finance Manager, Accounts Payable Lead, Revenue Cycle Lead

Hours: 40 hours per week / Full Time / Exempt

Compensation: $99,870 annually

Work Location: Hybrid remote and in our office location in Portland, OR.

Position Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Controller to collaborate with our VP of Finance on organizational financial operations and ensure the effective management of our financial resources. Reporting to the VP of Finance, this position is primarily responsible for developing and overseeing the processes to maintain appropriate internal controls, ensure the accuracy of all financial reporting, and support the VP of Finance with strategic planning and financial decision-making. We anticipate that the Controller will directly oversee 3 staff within the department: an AP Lead, Revenue Cycle Lead, and a Finance Manager. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in non-profit finance, a strategic mindset, and a commitment to supporting our mission.


Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • In partnership with the VP of Finance, develop, implement, and maintain financial policies, procedures, and internal controls, ensuring compliance with GAAP as well as the requirements of all grants and contracts
  • Act as a key advisor to the Vice President of Finance, providing strategic insights and financial reports to support leadership decision-making.
  • Coordinate and facilitate the annual audit process, working closely with external auditors to ensure a smooth and timely audit.
  • Collaborate with the Finance Manager and VP of Finance to identify opportunities for operational improvements and implement necessary changes
  • Oversee daily accounting operations to ensure the accuracy of the general ledger
  • Supervise month-end and year-end close processes
  • Ensure the timely and accurate preparation of all financial reports and projections
  • Provide timely review and approval of all journal entries and reconciliations
  • In partnership with the VP of Finance and Finance Manager, oversee the development and management of the annual organizational budget.
  • Manage, guide, mentor, train, and support the Finance Manager, AP Lead, and Revenue Cycle Manager, effectively delegating tasks while maintaining accountability for the accuracy and timeliness of financial processes.
  • Helps foster a culture where staff feel appreciated and recognized. 


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field, or a minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in non-profit finance.
  • Strong knowledge of non-profit accounting principles, grant management, and financial regulations.
  • Experience managing multiple team members
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Close attention to detail and accuracy
  • Experience with QuickBooks
  • Expertise in Microsoft Excel, including advanced functions such as pivot tables, complex formulas, and data analysis tools
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders


Working Conditions

  • Hybrid work environment: Currently working part-time remotely and part time in the office.
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk.
  • Frequent use of keyboard, 2 monitors, mouse, telephone and/or headset.
  • Project Access NOW provides equipment: laptop, monitors, and other home office work tools.
