Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Peer Support Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in providing assistance and guidance to individuals who are homeless facing challenges related to mental health, addiction, and behavioral health. This position requires lived experience with mental health or addiction. Peer certification will be required. Willing to work with individual until certification is obtained.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct support to clients in the homeless shelter;
- Offer guidance and support to clients in distress;
- Help facilitate first night or two in adapting to the shelter environment;
- Collaborate with professionals on duty to coordinate care;
- Facilitate support groups to promote personal growth and recovery;
- Maintain accurate documentation of guest interactions and progress in accordance with organizational policies;
- Stay informed about community resources and services available for guests;
- Utilize a strength-based and trauma informed care approach to helping guests realize their full potential.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, or a related field is preferred; relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Peer Support State Certification or desire to obtain at current time.
- Strong skills in crisis intervention and management are essential.
- Familiarity with systems used in mental health support is advantageous.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to build rapport with diverse populations.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- A commitment to maintaining confidentiality and ethical standards in all client interactions.

Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $17.25 - $17.50 per hour
Expected hours: 8 per week
Schedule:
- Evening shift
- Monday to Friday
