The Employment Case Manager for Project JumpStart, Inc. Student and Graduate Mentorship
The Employment Case Manager will act as a mentor to students and graduates, providing career guidance, resume building, and interview preparation. This mentorship helps empower participants to navigate career obstacles and seize opportunities for advancement.
- Conduct one-on-one interviews with students to identify career goals, assess strengths, and discuss challenges.
-Assist Employment Manager in searching for job opportunities on hiring sites like Indeed and within pre-existing PJSI employer networks.
-Partner with PJSI Community Partners to offer resources to students and graduates (i.e. Childcare, transportation, work attire, tools, materials, etc.)
- Work closely with students and graduates to build or update their resumes and apply to roles, ensuring that each individual is prepared to present their skills effectively to employers.
- Develop personalized job search strategies for students, taking into account their goals and needs.
- Attend classes to get acquainted with students and understand their unique backgrounds and aspirations.
- Introduce candidates to potential employers through personalized outreach via phone calls, emails, meetings, and events.
- Assist with the logistics of job interviews, getting students the materials they need, etc.
- Function as a mentor and guide, offering ongoing support to newly placed graduates to ensure their long-term success.
Placement and Career Advancement PJSI is distinguished by its commitment to staying connected with graduates after placement, helping them grow and advance in their careers. This role will work under with Employment Program Manager to help support graduates through job placement.
- Regular outreach to newly placed graduates, offering coaching and support through challenging situations on the job.
- Collaborate with employers and apprenticeship staff to facilitate apprenticeship enrollments and career advancement for graduates.
- Help promote the benefits of apprenticeship training to employers and graduates, guiding placed employees through all steps of the apprenticeship application and enrollment processes.
- Assist graduates in accessing additional resources and referrals to aid in their career and personal growth.
- Track all placements and career advancements, using data to measure program effectiveness and report outcomes.
Recruitment and Resume Building
The Employment Case Manager will be actively involved in recruitment and intake processes, ensuring that new students are well-prepared to begin their career journeys.
- Participate in intake interviews to get to know incoming students and establish career goals from the start.
- Answer inquiries about Project JumpStart and present the program at community meetings to raise awareness and attract new participants. Data Collection Accurate data collection is essential for reporting and improving Project JumpStart’s services, as well as for demonstrating the program’s success to funders.
- Enter and update demographic data on all participants in the appropriate databases.
- Track placements, promotions, and other career milestones for accurate reporting and evaluation.
- Maintain detailed spreadsheets and records of case management, placements, apprenticeship statuses, and resume development efforts.
- Make retention calls and update placement information as part of continuous data tracking. Through a combination of career placement, relationship-building, and personalized mentorship, the Employment Case Manager plays a vital role in ensuring the ongoing success of Project JumpStart graduates as they grow their careers in construction.
Details: Hybrid part-time role, some evenings.
$20-$25 per hour (depending on experience)
Please plan to be in-person 10-20 hours/month.
At least 15 of those hours should be planned for the evening to attend graduation/classes to check in with students.
Other in-person activities may include networking events, team meetings, etc.
Must be within commuting distance to Baltimore, Maryland. Preference to applicants located in Baltimore City.
