After School Program Worker
Reports to Childcare Coordinator
Responsibilities
The activities Facilitator will:
- Plan educational and recreational activities for school-age children;
- Conduct those programs after school Mondays-through-Friday, during the school year;
- Shift activities, their times of day, and her/his own work schedule during school vacations.
- Work with small groups of children during times designated by the childcare coordinator;
- Lead parts of the Child Care Program as directed;
- Take general responsibility to children’s daily activities and program operation in the Child Care Center when the coordinator is absent;
- Share tasks required to keep the child care area and equipment safe, clean and in order;
The After School Program Worker will:
- Organizes multi-generational activities for resident families each weekend and at other appropriate times
- Research and evaluate free and inexpensive recreational resources in the community;
- Utilize some of these as group activities for residents; Encourage resident families to use others on their own.
As coordinator of activities for older children, adults and families, this employee will:
- Supervise residents and their guests during activities at Project L.I.F.E.;
- Accompany, participate and supervise residents attending activities which have been scheduled offsite;
- Orient and supervise volunteers in the various activities programs;
- Maintain a file of activity reports on all programs and contain expenses within approved budget;
- Protect Project L.I.F.E.’s equipment, furniture and space used in after school and weekend activities.
The activities coordinator will:
- Participate in team meetings regarding resident families’ service plans and collaborate with other staff by sharing observations made during children’s, youth, adult or family activities.
- Participate in biweekly staff meetings, in-service training opportunities, and a biweekly review with the director
- Must be prompt and dependable.
The After School Program Worker will:
- Monitors the donation rooms to ensure organization and cleanliness.
- Completes donation paperwork for donors
- Keeps tracks of all families in the building, ages, gender, and clothing sizes
- Maintains records of pertinent Opportunity Center related information and prepares and submits monthly activity reports following established procedures.
Qualifications
- As a prerequisite, the successful candidate must believe in the core values of Project Life and be driven by the mission of the organization.
- Child Development, Recreation, or a related field or A.A.S., A.S. Degree in Early Childhood Education/Development and one year experience working with older children.
- Accepts as a condition of employment that the hours of employment change during school vacation, and as needed to assist in child care, and that a Saturday or Sunday is always included in the work week.
- English/Spanish bilingual helpful.
- Valid New York State driver’s license; Motor Vehicle record acceptable to Project L.I.F.E.’s insurer
- As a prerequisite, the successful candidate must believe in the core values of Project Life and be driven by the mission of the organization.
- Bachelor’s degree required; bachelor’s degree in social service-related field preferred.
- Experience teaching, working with volunteers and/or organizing community activities is required.
- Strong management skills including planning, coordination, and supervision are required.
- This position will require a highly organized individual, with excellent follow up skills as well as the ability to overcome objections and obstacles in the pursuit of success
- The successful candidate will have the ability to work well under stressful conditions, negotiate different personalities and work under competing priorities while managing a wide variety of tasks
- Experience working with one or more of the following: individuals experiencing homelessness, mental health-related issues, substance abuse, domestic violence, HIV/AIDS-related issues, and those living in poverty preferred.
