What are the responsibilities and job description for the Group Leader position at Project Morry?
About us: Morry's Camp is a residential summer camp located in the Catskill Mountains of New York. Morry's Camp is the summer portion of the year round youth-development organization, Project Morry. We believe that summer camps provide youth with a unique opportunity for growing independence, self-discovery, and skill building. Our mission is to provide our youth access to these opportunities regardless of economic status.
About the position: The Group Leader position is a great opportunity to gain some leadership and delegation skills, while still being very hands on with the kids. Our Group Leaders are like the team captain, and help support a group of staff (4-6) and the campers they are supporting (about 15). They have leadership responsibility that includes designating hours off, and implementing systems and routines for the campers, and ensuring that those put in place are consistent followed through. Experience working with kids is a plus, but is not required. This position is great for anyone who wants to increase their child development and management skills, and is passionate about making a difference. Experience managing or supervising peers is a plus, but is not required.
Responsibilities and expectations:
- Remain vigilant and aware of their campers to help ensure their safety.
- Support group staff and ask for support from the Unit Leader when needed.
- Participate in camp activities with their campers.
- Consistently check in with their campers in structured and unstructured ways.
- Make an effort to bond and create connections with each of their campers.
- Group Leaders will work with their co-counselors to various routines for the campers (e.g. wake up, rest hour, nighttime).

Compensation: Counselors live on site for the duration of their contracted dates. Room and board is included in salary. Applicant should be available between June 13th through August 10th. The salary for this position is $2,450 plus $200 for completing the season.
