This position is primarily remote, though regular in-person attendance at meetings and events in New York City is required, as is occasional travel for fundraising and program activities.About Project : Music Heals Us (PMHU)Project : Music Heals Us was founded in 2014 to provide encouragement, education, and healing to marginalized communities by sharing high-quality live music performances and interactive programming. Now in its second decade, PMHU prioritizes arts experiences for elderly, disabled, rehabilitating, incarcerated, homeless, and refugee populations. The organization has three main program areas : Music For The Future : a 9-week theory and composition course for incarcerated students.Vital Sounds Initiative : live and virtual concerts in hospitals and other healthcare settings.Novel Voices : a distance-learning program for students in the Middle East and Africa.Position SummaryThe Development and Communications Manager at PMHU is responsible for managing and implementing fundraising and communications strategies that support the financial sustainability and growth of the organization. Responsibilities include but are not limited to : DEVELOPMENTContribute to the ongoing development of a Patron Program for individual donors, whose support currently comprises $250,000 of PMHU’s annual budget. Create and implement donor recognition strategies, ensure the delivery of all donor benefits, and manage patron engagement activities to foster long-term support.Develop and execute twice-yearly Annual Fund campaigns, including direct mail, email and online giving strategies. Monitor and analyze the success of campaigns and make data-driven recommendations for improvement.Work closely with the Executive Director and Artistic Director to identify and research potential major gift prospects. Assist in the development of strategies to engage and cultivate these individuals.Maintain PMHU’s patron database records in Kindful. Ensure the accurate recording of donor contributions and the timely acknowledgment of all gifts.Represent PMHU at community events and networking functions to build relationships and increase the organization’s visibility.In partnership with the Executive Director, assist with the planning and execution of an annual Spring Gala fundraising event.In partnership with the Director of Operations, maintain the grants calendar and manage deadlines for proposals and reports. Assist with grant proposals, reports, supplemental materials, and funder research. Support from foundation and government funders currently totals approximately $600,000 of PMHU’s annual budget.COMMUNICATIONSDevelop branded communication strategies for programs and patron events.Create and maintain a weekly communications schedule for print, digital, and video content, and monitor metrics to assess success.Create and distribute email newsletters to targeted patron lists 1-2 times per month.Curate and maintain PMHU’s presence on social media platforms. Monitor and respond appropriately on behalf of PMHU to patron comments.Maintain and update content on PMHU’s website.QualificationsThe ideal candidate is highly organized and self-motivated. They are a strategic thinker, a curious learner, and eager to contribute to a dynamic and flexible staff. This position works closely with the Executive Director and the Artistic Director and represents PMHU to a variety of external stakeholders. Accordingly, superior attention to detail, exceptional interpersonal communication skills (written and verbal), and strong executive presence are required. Honesty, integrity, and the ability to operate efficiently and calmly while managing multiple projects are crucial to success in this role. The ideal candidate will have at least two years of experience with non-profit fundraising as well as proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Suite. Familiarity with Kindful, Canva, Mailchimp, Asana, and Slack is a plus, as is familiarity with video editing software such as Final Cut Pro. All PMHU team members must demonstrate a commitment to PMHU’s mission and values.Exceptional candidates will have familiarity with the funders that support PMHU’s work, knowledge of classical music, and experience with arts programming in the places where PMHU operates : in hospitals, in prisons, and in partnership with international community organizations.To apply, please submit a cover letter and resume to
