Director of Social Services for Homeless Shelter: The Director of Social Services is responsible for the overall management and direction of a comprehensive program of social services for a single men's, women's or family shelter. This goal is to expedite placement of residents into permanent housing and provide assistance in becoming self-sufficient. Services include assessments, counseling, service planning, and developing linkages with programs that provide entitlements, medical, educational, substance abuse, employment, and mental health services.
He/she will oversee the day-to-day operation of social services at the work site. Collaborative work with other on-site departments is required to facilitate effective problem-solving and strategy alignment.
Key responsibilities include:
Leadership and Quality Assurance: Provide and ensure delivery of quality services to clients through direct supervision of Case Managers, Housing Specialists, Recreational Specialist, Social Service Supervisors, Program Coordinator, and Employment Specialists.
Case Management Coordination: Coordinate case management services, including assessments and service plan implementation. Ensure staff identifies client needs, provides referrals, and follows up with resources.
Program Development: Identify changing program needs and develop new services or programs to meet client demands. Ensure all reports are submitted accurately and on time.
Training and Compliance: Organize training opportunities for staff professional development and ensure adherence to regulations and DHS policies. Provide crisis intervention as needed.
The ideal candidate possesses a Master's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, or a related field, accompanied by 2 years of direct social service experience. Bilingual skills in English and Spanish are advantageous.
