Position Overview:
Northrop Grumman is seeking a Mechanical Technician 2 to support our Mechanisms and Sensor area. In this role, you will be performing various tasks ranging from repetitive to non-repetitive operations, assisting in the development of mechanical and electromechanical designs, tests, fabrications, modifications, assemblies, and components. You will work with both mechanical and electromechanical devices, performing a variety of tasks related to assembly and testing.
Responsibilities:
- Assist engineers in the development of mechanical and electromechanical engineering designs, tests, fabrications, modifications, assemblies, and components.
- Perform precision cleaning and lubrication of various hardware components.
- Work with a variety of chemicals and solvents.
- Follow written instructions to execute assembly operations and utilize assembly drawings and diagrams.
- Perform mechanical assembly, precision soldering, harness routing, bonding, electrical testing using test procedures, and other comparable tasks with tools such as soldering irons, torque wrenches, machine tools, and multimeters.
- Demonstrate to Quality Assurance that work meets engineering drawing requirements.
- Read, interpret, and understand engineering drawings.
- Willingness to work weekends as required.
- Work in cleanroom environments while wearing proper gowning.
Basic Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (G.E.D.) required.
- 2 years of additional education and/or mechanical or gimbal assembly experience.
- Knowledge and experience with the use of various hand tools and mechanical equipment.
- Strong work ethic, positive attitude, and willingness to learn.
- Ability to work within diverse teams, including design engineers, manufacturing engineers, and technicians.
- Ability to read, interpret, and execute work based on mechanical assembly drawings, wire lists, BOMs, and/or test procedures.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience using common hand tools and calibrated tools such as torque wrenches, heat guns, crimp tools, soldering irons, thermal wire strippers, microscopes, and thermal chambers/ovens.
- Strong communication skills.
- Familiarity with electromechanical assembly and knowledge of precision-type assembly work.
- Experience building spacecraft structures, sub-structures, deployables, hinges, and electromechanical assemblies.
- Ability to work independently with minimal direction.
- Experience installing/bonding heaters, thermistors, thermostats onto assemblies, and installing gears and electrical motors.
- Demonstrated ability to perform precision assembly on spacecraft hardware.
- Ability to read and perform assembly to complex engineering drawings.
- Demonstrated ability to perform bonding operations on spacecraft hardware.
Job Type: Contract
Pay: Up to $35.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
