Position Summary

The Junior Accountant is responsible for collecting, recording and reconciling data, analyzing information, and summarizing results in a concise and accurate manner. This role requires a heavy emphasis to detail and accuracy, reconciliation, investigating to explain variances, analyzing activity, and identifying complex transactions in a fast past environment.


This position addresses tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities. These include comparing general ledger account balance to supporting documentation and assisting in the preparation of financial statements and budgets. Executing month-end close, year-end close and annual audit.


This is an entry-level accounting position with strong potential for advancement.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Support and assist team leads in ensuring daily, monthly and quarterly bank transactional activities are executed in a timely and accurate manner

  1. Review uncleared checks monthly – determine if checks need to be reissued

• Maintain a thorough understanding of the general ledger structure

  1. Reconcile and maintain general ledger, prepare, and post journal / closing entries
  2. Reconcile G/L accounts to assert the accuracy of transactions; research and resolve discrepancies

• Support the timely and accurate data entry and reporting of all financial transactions

  1. Review / monitor revenue and expense allocation on financial statements
  2. Oversee expenditures– track monthly expenditures to budget
  3. Oversee inventory accounts – reconcile accounts to supporting documents
  4. Timely and accurate review and processing of OPEX A/P payments – GL coding, amounts align to supporting documents

• Review credit card spending, American Express and Bank Cards

  1. Check for consistent coding against budget and prior reporting periods
  2. Work with card holders on unusual spending
  3. Prepare template of credit card spending for upload to SyteLine

• Assist with Sales Tax administration, reconciliation, and reporting

• Assist with Business Property Tax record keeping and annual reporting

• Accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year end close

• Support the development and monitoring of annual budget

• Validate executed contracts against budget

• Assist with A/R Collections and reconciliation of Customer Accounts

• Process improvement: assist in development and implementation of new procedures and features to enhance the workflow of the department

• Subject to additional and/or revised responsibilities and duties as directed Supervisory


Responsibilities

This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities.


Education

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, or related field; and experience in an accounting position in either a Manufacturing or Merchandising environment. CPA designation preferred.


Skills/Experience

• Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of GAAP accounting principles, practices, standards, laws and regulations

• Experience with Cloud ERP Systems (or SyteLine/Infor Cloud)

• Experience with Accounting Software

• Advanced knowledge in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft suite products

• Expert ability to produce work with a high level of accuracy
