The Director of Nursing (DON) will oversee the nursing department within our skilled nursing facility, ensuring the highest standards of care are provided to all residents. The DON will manage, coordinate, and direct nursing services and personnel, while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. This leadership role requires a strong clinical background, a passion for patient care, and the ability to effectively manage a team of nursing professionals in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities :

Leadership & Management :

Provide leadership and direction to the nursing team, including Registered Nurses (RNs), Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), and Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs).

  • Develop, implement, and maintain departmental policies and procedures to ensure quality care and adherence to regulations.
  • Oversee the development and execution of the nursing care plans for each resident, ensuring individualized and person-centered care.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations, offer professional development opportunities, and provide guidance to nursing staff.
  • Foster a collaborative work environment with other departments, including therapy, dietary, and social services, to ensure holistic care for residents.

Regulatory Compliance & Quality Assurance :

Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, including those set by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and the state health department.

  • Oversee the implementation and monitoring of infection control policies, ensuring adherence to industry standards.
  • Lead and participate in quality assurance and improvement initiatives, including audits and reviews of nursing practices and patient outcomes.
  • Investigate and address any incidents, complaints, or issues related to nursing care or staff performance.
  • Resident Care :

    Oversee clinical assessments, medication management, and treatment protocols to ensure quality care.

  • Monitor and ensure timely delivery of care to residents, focusing on improving outcomes and resident satisfaction.
  • Address and resolve any clinical concerns or issues raised by residents, families, or staff.
  • Staffing & Scheduling :

    Maintain appropriate nurse staffing levels to ensure safe and effective care, in line with facility requirements and patient needs.

  • Coordinate and manage nursing staff schedules to ensure adequate coverage, while also ensuring compliance with labor laws and budget constraints.
  • Oversee recruitment, retention, and training of nursing personnel to ensure an adequately skilled workforce.
  • Budget & Resource Management :

    Work with the facility leadership to develop and manage the nursing department budget, ensuring efficient allocation of resources.

  • Monitor and manage nursing supplies and equipment to ensure optimal care delivery while minimizing waste.
  • Qualifications :

  • Registered Nurse (RN) license in [State].
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) required; Master’s Degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of [X] years of nursing experience, with at least [X] years in a leadership or management role in a skilled nursing facility or similar healthcare setting.
  • Knowledge of federal and state regulations related to skilled nursing facilities, including CMS guidelines.

  • CPR and First Aid certification required.
  • Experience with electronic health records (EHR) systems and other healthcare management software preferred.
  • Working Conditions :

  • Work environment involves regular interaction with residents and staff in a clinical setting.
